Private music instruction is offered at Hope Academy for voice, piano, organ, strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass), woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone), brass (trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba), percussion, drum set, Cajon, classical and electric guitar, electric bass, and ukulele; for students as young as 4 years old. Suzuki piano lessons are offered on Saturdays, as well as four levels of Suzuki Violin (this program includes a group class and private lesson each week). NEW for 2016-2017 – Suzuki cello and guitar for 4 to 6 year olds. Private lessons take place at East Liberty Presbyterian Church, after school (Tuesday-Friday) and all day on Saturdays. 30 minute, 45 minute, and hour lessons are offered.
Music Discovery class for 4 to 6 year olds in partnership with the Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts is a per-requisite course for students entering Suzuki violin, piano, cello or guitar. The Wednesday evening Flute Choir, under the direction of Kristine Rominski, continues and will accept new flutists throughout the year. Opportunities to rehearse and perform with small groups across a variety of musical styles and genres will be given to more advanced players; and teens who are less classically inclined, are invited to participate in one of our HAT Co Rock Bands. Print out our 2016- 2017 Hope Academy Course Brochure + Registration Form for more details.
New and returning students must also complete an Inquiry Form for Private Lessons to give us the information we need to match students with teachers and find a schedule that works for everyone.
Suzuki Music Program – Violin, Cello, Guitar and Piano
I want to make good citizens. If a child hears fine music from the day of his birth and learns to play it himself, he develops sensitivity, discipline and endurance. He gets a beautiful heart. —Shin’ichi Suzuki
Hope Academy’s Suzuki program gives beginning students the opportunity to build a solid foundation for their music training through the Suzuki principles of an early beginning, listening, loving encouragement, parental support, constant repetition, and learning with other children. The program consists of a weekly private lesson and a weekly group class, under the direction of Kathleen Andrews and Liza Barley (violin), Beth Goldstein-McKee (cello) and Gil Texeira (guitar). Patricia Pavlack directs the Suzuki piano program which does not have a weekly group class component.
An informational session, presented by the Suzuki Association of Pittsburgh, will be held at East Liberty Presbyterian Church on SAT September 3 at 1 pm. Please use this online form to RSVP for the Suzuki Information Session.
