Spotlights
Celebrating Youth Sunday, May 20, 11:00 service
ELPC youth will share their gifts and lead our 11 am worship service on Sunday, May 20. Our liturgy will be written and led by our Senior High Church School Class, seniors will share their faith stories, and our club one sixteen children and youth will show two video presentations that they prepared.
Young at Heart Luncheon, Sunday, May 20, after the 11:00 service
All of those who are 65 and over are invited to the Young At Heart Luncheon presented by the Deacons on Sunday, May 20 after the 11 am worship service. Join together for food, fellowship and music by Gabe D'Abruzzo. Admission for each ELPC senior member, as well as one guest, is free. For others, there will be a $10 fee. Please RSVP by May 16 to Kate Carlson, (412) 441-3800 x 16.

Christian Education, Sunday May 20
- Contemporaries: “Christianity in Cuba,” with Gwen Puza. Second floor parlor.
- Journey with Scripture: Acts 1:15-17, 21-26; Psalms 1; I John 5:9-15; John 17:6-19. Second floor library.
- Parenting Circle: We continue our spring text, Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream, by David Platt. “Our Families: Raising our children in a material world,” Chapter 6: How Much is Enough? Books available in class, no prior reading is required and newcomers welcome! First floor, Harambe Room.
- Seekers: “U.S. Energy Policy and Global Warming,” with Dr. Ronald Stone. Room 234.
- Soul Food: We continue our text Spiritual Classics: “Do Not Be Anxious About Your Life,” by Martin Luther (pp. 119-126).
- Clase de Escuela Dominical en Español, con Joaquin Anabe Lopez. Room 217.
Worship and prayer opportunities during the week
- Labyrinth prayer walk: Open 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Mondays, and 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Wednesdays. In the Social Hall.
- Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday, 7:00pm. Second floor library.
- Wednesday evening Bible study with the Revs. Bush and Schoenewolf. Wednesday evenings through May 30. 6pm - 7pm. Second Floor Parlor.
Taizé prayer service, Every Wednesday at 7pm. The hour-long service includes sung prayers, simple, beautiful music, a time of silence, spoken and silent prayers, and opportunity for individual prayer. In the Chapel.
News and events
Young adults Dia de Servico/Day of Service, May 19, 10am - 3pm
Put your faith into action by rolling up your sleeves to do some service projects around the church for the day. Dress casually and plan to get a little dirty. Lunch provided. Meets in the Trustees Room. Read more
Presbyterian Women (PW) Retreat, May 18-19
All Presbyterian Women are welcome to join us for a weekend retreat, “The Powers of Choice and Empathy Spring Retreat,” at Camp Crestfield, May 18-19. A peacemaker by nature and a lawyer and mediator by profession, Elder Diana Bloss will share the gift of accepting empowerment and the practice of empathy. Overnight retreat will begin Friday evening, May 18 and conclude after dinner on Saturday, May 19. Call Mary Alice Lightle with questions, (412) 682-1504.

In our community
East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. May’s “Food of the Month” is rice.
East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of May, the Deacons will continue to collect men’s toothpaste, shampoo, and flip flops/shower shoes for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support! |
