Spotlight

Summer schedule begins
Our summer schedule begins this Sunday, June 13. The Good Samaritan service continues at its regular time, 8:00 am. The Journey and 11:00 Sanctuary worship services will be combined into one 10:00 am service. The 10:00 service will be in the sanctuary during the month of June; for the months of July and August, the 10 am service will be held outside in our church courtyard (weather permitting). Our fall schedule resumes on Rally Day, September 12.

June 13 Christian Education

  • Contemporaries, special time 9:15 - 9:50. Landscapes of FaithJoin us for a special adult summer series, “Landscapes of Faith.” June 13: “Vineyard Encounters,” based on Matthew 20:1-6. In God’s reign, people labor hard and well, for as long as they are able, and their needs are taken care of by a generous God. Led by Mary Alice Lightle. Second floor parlor.
  • Journey with Scripture, Parenting Circle, and Seekers are on break until the fall. Regular Christian Education classes for adults, youth, and children will resume on Rally Day, September 13.

Additional worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Taizé prayer service: Every Wednesday, 7:00 pm in the Chapel. Childcare available from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm. June 9 Taizé service will be followed at 8:15 with an organ recital in the Sanctuary. Join us as accomplished musician Jennifer Gorske, and student of the Rev. Dr. J. Richard Szeremany, performs a recital on ELPC’s Aeolian-Skinner organ. In the Sanctuary.
  • Labyrinth prayer walk The Labyrinth at ELPC(Note new hours): Wednesday, June 9, 9:00 am - 1:30 pm. Monday, June 14, 9:00 am - 9:00 pm. In the Social Hall.
  • Centering prayer: Tuesday, June 15, 7:00 pm. Room 250.

Youth and Young Adults

  • Young Adult group trip to see Miss Saigon, June 18: All young adults Pittsburgh CLO presents Miss Saigon(20’s and 30’s) are invited to join the Young Adult Group to see the Pittsburgh CLO’s production of Miss Saigon at the Benedum Center on Friday, June 18. (Read more about the show in the Post-Gazette’s recent review.) The show starts at 8 pm. Tickets, based on availability, are: $26.50/person. Meet at ELPC at 6:30 pm to carpool downtown. Pittsburgh PrideFest 2010, June 13
PrideFest is a huge celebration of GLBT people in Pittsburgh. It begins with PrideMarch through downtown, followed by a street fair on Liberty Ave. This is one of the opportunities we have for evangelism here in Pittsburgh! Pittsburgh PrideFest 2010We encourage you to join us in representing ELPC and its message of God’s abundant love. Wear your ELPC t-shirt and walking shoes. We will have a shuttle to/from the march site following 10 am worship on Sunday, June 13. Hygiene Kits for Disaster Victims
Hygiene Kits, Presbyterian WomenHygiene kits are one way to share in a hope-filled tomorrow. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of children and families the world over. Through Labor Day, Presbyterian Women are collecting hygiene kits for disaster victims around the world. In June, the requested items are new hand towels (approximately 16x28”) and new washcloths. If you prefer to assemble complete kits, pick up instructions on the PW bulletin board outside the library. Please leave items or completed kits in the church office. If you wish to make a monetary gift, used for kits or shipping costs, make checks payable to “Presbyterian Women in East Liberty Presbyterian Church.”

“Meet God on the Mountain,” Vacation Church School: June 28 - July 2
Vacation Church School at ELPCChildren age 3 1/2 (potty trained) through Grade 5 are invited to explore Bible stories of mystery, power, and truth that will take them on an exciting journey, and help them experience God’s presence in their lives. Our days will be filled with worship, recreation, arts and crafts, service, and fun, plus, a mid-week field trip to Squaw Valley Park. Download the registration form. Download the volunteer form. ELPC is pleased to offer VCS to families free of charge. To help cover our program’s costs, we are seeking donations from our ELPC family to purchase supplies and snacks. If you can help, please take a tag from the bulletin board at the bottom of the main stairwell and purchase the items listed on the tag. Donations are due back no later than Sun., June 20.

Art show, “Pondered Pieces” by Laura Landry, continues to June 20
Laura Landry art showOur last exhibit until the fall features Laura Landry, a local artist. The exhibit will be open from June 6 through June 20. A portion of the sales benefit ELPC. East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. June’s “Food of the Month” is canned fruit.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of June, the Deacons are collecting soap and deodorant for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
