Young adults
A new weekly young adult summer series begins this week: Have you ever wondered why humans in all places and times have yearned for beauty, truth, spirituality, and justice? What does that have to tell us about our Christian faith? Together we'll be looking at these questions and more as we meet to watch and discuss the DVD-based study of Bishop N.T. Wright’s book Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense. All those in their 20’s and 30’s are invited to come join us on Wednesdays from June 23 to August 25 (except for July 21) at 8 pm in Room 234. Contact

ELPC weekly news highlights
Courtyard worship begins this Sunday
This Sunday we will move outside to our beautiful courtyard for our 10:00 am worship service (weather permitting). This allows us to gather in a wonderful space and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation, as we sing and offer praise to the Lord. Come early and get a good seat! And, like last year, the service will be projected on the screen in the Third Floor Music Room (near the elevator).
July Reaching Out updates
Note updates for the July “Reaching Out” newsletter: The labyrinth hours on Mondays are now 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. The Holy Ground service will be held on July 18, guest speaker is Father William Kiel.
July Reaching Out available on website
The July “Reaching Out” newsletter is now available on our website, including Rev. Bush’s pastoral message; this month, writing about the recent death of his father: “To whatever extent we can live up to his example, we too will have left a legacy that will be hard to put into words—one that will cause others to say ‘I’ll miss him’ when we’re gone. For that, we have my dad to thank..” Read more.
Mark your calendars! Tour of ELPC, July 14
On Wednesday, July 14, at approximately 8:15 pm, join us in the Narthex (foyer on the Penn Ave side of the church). From here we will begin our tour with Marti Moore and learn more about the history and architecture of our church. ELPC was built in the style of the Gothic cathedrals of Europe. This style emerged in the twelfth century, mainly under the influence of the Cistercian Order and Abbot Suger of St. Denis, Paris. The Gothic style is characterized by the use of pointed arches, the emphasis on light mediated through colored stained glass, and the cruciform floor plan. For more information, view the church’s webpage on its architecture and history.
Julia Cahill featured on Pittsburgh Promise
Our speaker for the Samaritan service this Sunday is the Rev. Saleem Ghubril, who is executive director of The Pittsburgh Promise. Our own Julia Cahill, who makes the nursery so welcoming and fun for our little ones, is featured as one of the Promise’s scholars, in a great profile on The Pittsburgh Promise’s website. Julia’s hard work and dedication to fulfilling her dreams is an inspiration.

Join us for fellowship and service as we put the finishing touches on the Fairmount Ave house, and continue work in the Garfield Community Farm on Saturday, July 3.
