ELPC weekly news highlights
Tour of the Sanctuary (only), July 14
On Wednesday, July 14, at approximately 8:15 pm, join us in the Narthex (foyer on the Penn Ave side of the church). From here we will begin our tour of the beautiful Sanctuary (only) with Marti Moore and learn more about the history and architecture of our church. (Note this is a correction from the original tour information posted in this month’s Reaching Out.) ELPC was built in the style of the Gothic cathedrals of Europe. The Gothic style is characterized by the use of pointed arches, the emphasis on light mediated through colored stained glass, and the cruciform floor plan. For more information, view the church’s webpage on its architecture and history. Note that a larger tour of the church will be scheduled later in the summer or early in the fall.
Help the landscaping team, July 10, 9am - Noon
On Saturday, July 10, the Landscaping Team will finish trimming the shrubs surrounding the church, weeding and edging. We would appreciate any amount of help you could give! If you could bring any tools that day (electric trimmers, pruners, rakes, weeding tools), it would be a huge help. Please call Chuck Lukehart for details, (412) 782-6447.
Holy Ground service, July 18
A correction to the July Reaching Out: The Holy Ground service will be offered on July 18 at 6pm. Father William Kiel, Pastor, St. Bernard of Clairvaux (Indiana, PA) preaching. In the courtyard (weather permitting).
Presbytery Night with the Pirates, Friday, July 23, 7:05 pm
Come see the Pirates take on the San Diego Padres. A portion of the ticket sales support the mission of Pittsburgh Presbytery. Remember to mention Pittsburgh Presbytery Night with the Pirates when you buy your ticket. See you at the ballpark!
This comfy chair is for you
Our summer worship schedule continues, and we’re holding the 10:00 service outside in the courtyard during the months of July and August. The Session is aware, however, that some are not comfortable sitting outside, and that the courtyard is not fully accessible. To accommodate these needs, we’re projecting on the screen in the third floor Music Room, which is near the elevator. Hope to see you!
