Holy GroundHoly Ground service, Sunday October 17 at 6pm
The Holy Ground service of prayers for wholeness is for everyone: for the world, our neighbors, and ourselves. There are quiet hymns, periods of prayerful silence, and a homily delivered by Father William Kiel, ending with anointing and blessing. In the Chapel.

Churches Week of Action on Food: Chenoa Stock, October 14
Chenoa Stock has served as a missionary in Sri Lanka for over three years as a part of PC(USA)’s Presbyterian Hunger Project (PHP). Presbyterian Hunger ProjectPHP has helped plan the Churches Week of Action on Food, observed internationally this week. Chenoa will help us commemorate these events at ELPC on Thursday, Oct 14 at 7 pm in Room 234 by sharing her experience in Sri Lanka where the displacement of people from farmland and fishing sites by the government (and war) was and still is a major problem. We will raise our awareness and then act to bring food justice issues to the forefront on behalf of those suffering from hunger. Part of this action will be to invite you to fast for one day and donate the savings to the Presbyterian Hunger Project. Panel Discussion on Food Scarcity, October 17
Representatives from Bread for the World, Bread for the WorldJust Harvest and the Garfield Community Farm will join us to continue the celebration of the Churches Week of Action on Food with a panel discussion about the causes of food scarcity, the maldistribution of food and agricultural practices that threaten the environment as well as our health. With their guidance, we will find ways that we can help increase food production, support organizations fighting poverty and hunger, reduce the negative effects on the environment and improve our diets by eating locally. Join us next Sunday, October 17 at 12:15 pm. Third floor Music Room.

Deacon's bake saleYummy! Bake sale, October 17
The Deacons are hosting a bake sale on Sunday, October 17 after the 11:00 service (during Fellowship Time). All proceeds to benefit the Deacons’ Thanksgiving Baskets ministry.

ELPC in the Community

Lula Washington Dance Theatre Performance, Saturday October 16
The Hillman Center for Performing Arts presents the Lula Washington Dance Theatre, an African-American dance company, on Saturday, October 16 at 7 pm. If you mention East Liberty Presbyterian Church when buying tickets, ELPC will receive 10% of our congregation’s ticket sales. Call (412) 968-3040.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. October’s “Food of the Month” is pasta sauce.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of October, the Deacons continue to collect XL men’s underwear, tee-shirts, and deodorant for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
