Etta CoxSpecial worship schedule for Marathon weekend
Due to Pittsburgh city street closures on Sunday May 15 due to the Marathon, our usual 8:45 Journey and 11:00 Sanctuary worship services are being rescheduled. Please plan to worship with us on Saturday evening, May 14 at 5:00 pm. It will be a fantastic evening as we welcome jazz great Etta Cox as our guest musician for the special evening worship service. Stay after the service for a pot-luck dinner in the Social Hall. Family activities will be part of the evening festivities. Note that the 8:00 am Good Samaritan service will be held at its usual time on the 15th.

  • Parenting Circle: “Parenting Then and Now” Congregation members with years of parenting experience join the group for discussion and mutual encouragement. First floor, Harambe Room.
  • Seekers: “Sexuality and the Sacred,” part 1 of 3, with Rev. Barbara McFarland. Room 234.
  • Soul Food: Discussions continue using Joyce Rupp’s Fresh Bread: “Growing with God,” with Bobby Egelston. Second floor, Pastor’s conference room.

Additional worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Taizé chapel and crossTaizé prayer service: Every Wednesday, 7:00 pm in the Chapel. Join us after the service at 8:15 May 4 for a sing-along, “Sing in the May.” We will sing German folk songs (in German and English). You may bring spring or summer songs from your tradition. Dr. Ed Moore will join us on the piano. All are welcome. Childcare available from 6:45 to 8:15 in the Nursery.
  • Labyrinth prayer walk: 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Mondays; 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Wednesdays. (Check the calendar for details.)
  • Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Beginners welcome! Room 250.

Community Mission Opportunities: SaturdaysELPC’s Neighbors Mission committee is sponsoring work days with Open Hand Ministries and Garfield Community Farm. No special skills are needed. All ages are welcome! ELPC also is sponsoring a volunteer cookout on an upcoming work day. If you are not interested in a hammer or dirt, help us serve lunch! Mother’s Day Cards
The Healthy Women Healthy Families ministry supports health projects that care for women and children in Africa This Mother’s Day, choose a card to support Healthy Women Healthy Families, a program of the PC(USA)’s International Health and Development office, $10, available after the 11:00 worship on May 1, or from Kate Carlson in the church office during the week. Mother’s Day Bake Sale
ELPC Bake Sale!The ELPC Landscape Team is hosting a bake sale to help cover costs for landscaping items. Join us in the McKelvey Room before and after the 11:00 service for this special fellowship time and delicious treats. Coffee and tea will be served. The Landscape Team will be on hand to answer questions and sign up volunteers.

Strategic Planning: Mission Statement & Goal Language Gathering,
Strategic Vision: Study CirclesTuesday May 10

Join us May 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Congregation members are invited to help pull together the mission statement and goal language gleaned from our earlier Study Circles and Officers’ Retreat. A draft will be presented to the Session on May 17 and to the congregation on Sunday, May 22. The final Strategic Vision document is on track to be approved by Session and presented after their June meeting.

Musical May
A musical May at ELPCDuring the month of May, glorious music will be filling the sanctuary at ELPC throughout the month! In addition to the special May 14 service mentioned above, the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh performs May 15, and on May 22, Dr. Ed Moore, our organist and music director will perform a recital. East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. May’s “Food of the Month” is peanut butter.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of May, the Deacons continue to collect men’s socks, deodorant, and shampoo for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
