Holy Week and Easter Highlights

This week is full of opportunities for worship, reflection and prayer. See highlights below. View the complete schedule
  • Wednesday, April 4. Taizé service at 7:00 pm. See below for details. In the Chapel.
  • Maundy Thursday, April 5. Service at 7:00 pm, with celebration of the Lord’s supper. In the Sanctuary.
  • Good Friday, April 6:
    • 12:00 pm: Good Friday service remembering the final hours of Jesus’ life and his crucifixion. In the Chapel.
    • 12 - 3pm: Ecumenical worship service at St. James AME. Rev. Bush will preach and deliver the Fifth Word, “I thirst”
    • 7:00 pm: Tenebrae Service of light and darkness, recalling Jesus’ trial, crucifixion and death. In the Chapel.
  • Holy Saturday Easter Vigil, April 7. Service begins at 7pm at the Penn Ave entrance. With celebration of the Lord’s supper.
  • Easter Sunday, April 8:
    • Samaritan and Journey services combined into one service in the Chapel at 8:45 am, with celebration of the Lord’s supper.
    • Sanctuary service at 11:00, with celebration of the Lord’s supper.

  • 8:45 am: Combined Good Samaritan and Journey Worship services. In the Chapel. Rev. Heather Schoenewolf preaching.
  • 11:00 am: Sanctuary Worship, Rev. Dr. Randall K. Bush preaching: “Whom Are You Looking For?”, John 20:1-18.

Christian Education, Sunday April 8

No Christian Education classes on Easter Sunday. Join us at 9:30 in the Social Hall for a time of hospitality. See the Christian Education webpage for complete course descriptions and notes on upcoming classes.

Worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Labyrinth prayer walk on Mondays and Wednesdays.Taizé prayer service: Join us this Wednesday April 4 at 7pm for a special Holy Week Taizé service. The hour-long service includes sung prayers, simple, beautiful music, a time of silence, spoken and silent prayers, and opportunity for individual prayer.
  • Labyrinth prayer walk: The labyrinth is open additional hours on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during Holy Week. In the Social Hall. See the complete schedule.
  • Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday, 7:00pm. Second floor library.

Presbyterian Women Bible Study, February 7  Presbyterian Women Bible Study, Tuesday April 3, 10am

Join us today as we continue our study, “Confessing the Beatitudes.” Our lesson is Greatly Honored Are Those Who Have Been Persecuted for the Sake of Justice! (Matt 5:10, 13:20-21; Rom 8:31-39). Second Floor Parlor. A potluck lunch will follow. Please bring a salad or snack to share and your own place setting. Soup and beverages will be provided. Volunteer for Neighbors or at Food Pantry on April 14 (note new date)

Join the Housing Ministry, part of Neighbors Committee, on a Saturday work day on April 7. All day or partial day. No special skills needed; all ages are welcome! For more info, contact Emily Rosenthal, (412) 963-0139. The Poverty Committee will also be working April 14th at the Valley View Presbyterian Church's Food Pantry. Food pantryEast End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. April’s “Food of the Month” is peanut butter.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of April, the Deacons will collect men’s toothpaste, shampoo, flip flops/shower shoes for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
