Spotlight

Special Worship Service on Saturday, May 5 at 5pm

Pittsburgh MarathonWith the Pittsburgh Marathon on Sunday, many roads will be closed around the city, including roads to around the church. Only the 8am Good Samaritan service will be offered on Sunday May 6. However, please join us Saturday evening, May 5 at 5pm, for a special evening worship service! This worship will focus on the theme of creation, as described in the first chapter of the book of Genesis. Following worship, there will be a potluck supper. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. View a map of Marathon road closures and scheduled closure times.

Worship service, Sunday May 6

  • 8:00 am: Good Samaritan: Rev. Dr. Randall K. Bush preaching. Ground floor dining room. With celebration of the Lord's supper.
  • No Journey or Sanctuary worship on Sunday May 6. Join us Saturday evening May 5 at 5pm for a combined service. The regular service schedule resumes Sunday, May 13.
  • 11:00 am: Sanctuary Worship, Rev. Heather Schoenewolf preaching.

Christian Education, Sunday May 6
No Christian Education classes on Sunday May 6. Classes resume Sunday, May 13. See the CE page for details.

Worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Labyrinth prayer walk on Mondays and Wednesdays.Taizé prayer service, Every Wednesday at 7pm. The hour-long service includes sung prayers, simple, beautiful music, a time of silence, spoken and silent prayers, and opportunity for individual prayer. In the Chapel.
  • Labyrinth prayer walk: Open 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Mondays, and 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Wednesdays. In the Social Hall.
  • Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday, 7:00pm. Second floor library.

Available before worship on May 5, or from Kate Carlson in the church office during the week.

“First Friday” TRAIL Event, Young Adults May 4, 7pm

Learn to be a good neighbor! We will gather at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary to learn about a new local mission opportunity called “Who’s Your Brother?” and then engage their service online. Read more

Volunteer for Neighbors or at Food Pantry on May 5

The Poverty Committee will be working May 5 at the Valley View Presbyterian Church's Food Pantry. Hands are needed to help box food and carrying boxes for the recipients. For more info, contact Dick Headley, (412) 421-5871. You are also invited to join the Housing Ministry, part of Neighbors Committee, on a Saturday work day on May 5. Food pantryEast End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. May’s “Food of the Month” is rice.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of May, the Deacons will continue to collect men’s toothpaste, shampoo, and flip flops/shower shoes for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
