School Kits for Children

During August, Presbyterian Women will collect school kits for children around the world. Instructions for the kits are on the PW bulletin board outside the library. Please leave completed kits or articles for kits in the box in the church office. To make a monetary contribution, please make checks payable to Presbyterian Women in East Liberty Presbyterian Church. Thank you for your support!

    Christian Education at ELPC
  • Our Christian Education classes are on a summer break. Please join us on September 9 for Rally Day when our regular class schedule resumes.

Worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday, 7:00pm. Second floor library.
  • Labyrinth prayer walk: Every Monday, 9:00 am to 1:30 pm; every Wednesday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. In the Social Hall.
  • Taizé prayer service. Every Wednesday at 7pm, in the Chapel. The hour-long service includes sung prayers, simple, beautiful music, a time of silence, spoken and silent prayers, and opportunity for individual prayer. After-Taizé programs resume September 12.

Spiritual Life Book Discussions, Tuesdays through August 28The Sabbath by

Continuing Tuesdays through August 28, join us from 6-7pm for a book discussion of The Sabbath by Abraham Joshua Heschel. While Heschel writes as a Jewish scholar, his understanding of Sabbath provides a context for us to begin to place the practice of sabbath within the structure of our own lives. Childcare available.

2012 International Day of Peace, September 21, 2012

The International Day of Peace will take place at ELPC this year. A Prayer Vigil in the Chapel and Sanctuary, will begin at 12:01 am in the early morning of September 21, and continue through midnight. The Labyrinth will also be available for walking and seated meditation. At 7 pm, there will be an international flag ceremony and blessing of the peace pole, followed by an Intrafaith Peace Service. Coming in the Fall: Just Eating

This fall, the Poverty Committee will offer a new study program called Just Eating. The curriculum will help us to better understand the relationship between our Christian heritage and food. We will examine the health of our bodies, the access others have to food, the health of the earth, and more. Members of the Poverty Committee will be available to answer questions during coffee hours in the McKelvey Room. For more information, view the Poverty Committee webpage

Food pantryEast End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. August’s “Food of the Month” is Tuna.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the summer months, the Deacons will continue to collect men’s toothpaste, shampoo, and flip flops/shower shoes for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
