Spotlight
Church picnic, Sunday September 16
Join us for ELPC’s annual church picnic, September 16th, immediately following the 11 AM worship service. Food will be served in the Social Hall, and seating will be available both in our Social Hall and in our ELPC Courtyard. The Christian Education Ministry Team will provide fried chicken, hot dogs, dessert, and beverage. Everyone is asked to bring a cold side dish or salad to share. Games will be organized for children. Seminary Sunday, Sunday September 16
Students and faculty from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary have been invited to join us for worship and fellowship on Sunday, September 16. To all of our Seminary visitors, the Membership and Outreach Committee will provide a small welcoming gift. Following the 11 am service, all are invited to the church picnic. All folks are asked to wear a nametag (bring one or fill one out when you arrive at church) so we might get to know one another better.

- 8:00 am: Good Samaritan: Nathan Glover delivering the message, Athletics Urban Missionary, Urban Impact. First floor dining room.
- 8:45 am: Journey Worship: Rev. Patrice Fowler-Searcy preaching. Third floor music room.
- 11:00 am: Sanctuary Worship: Visiting Malawi pastors preaching.
Christian Education, Sunday September 16, 9:45 - 10:45
- Contemporaries: “Remain Open To The Possibility That Sometimes God Speaks To Us Through Other People,” with Joe Kennedy. Second floor parlor.
- Journey with Scripture: Proverbs 1:20-33; Psalm 19; James 3:1-12; Mk 8:27-38. Second floor library.
- Parenting Circle: First floor, Harambe Room.
- Seekers: Learn about conservation and protection of natural resources , in the midst of natural gas shale development. Ms. Dale Fox , Executive Director of Headwaters Resource Conservation and Development Council, will share her experiences related to gas shale development. Room 234.
- Soul Food: We will continue our text Spiritual Classics this fall. A reading on prayer and service by Hadewijch of Antwerp, pp. 199-204.
- Clase de Escuela Dominical en Español, con Joaquin Anabe Lopez. Room 217.
Worship and prayer opportunities during the week
- Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday, 7:00pm. Second floor library.
- Labyrinth prayer walk: Every Monday from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, and every Wednesday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
In the Social Hall.
- Taizé prayer service. Every Wednesday at 7pm, in the Chapel. The hour-long service includes sung prayers, simple, beautiful music, a time of silence, spoken and silent prayers, and opportunity for individual prayer. On September 12, stay after the Taizé service for a time of walking meditation. One of our musicians will play soft music and you are invited to walk our labyrinth! Open until 9pm.

Club 116 resumes September 19!
Club One Sixteen offers an evening of fellowship, study and worship for people of all ages. There will be homework help, open gym, educational workshops, dinner, and Bible Study each week. For the Fall 2012, we will be exploring the theme together “Testimonies.” For more information, view the Club 116 webpage
Delegates from Malawi visit, September 16 and 23
Thirty missionaries from the Synod of Blantyre will visit Pittsburgh in September. Our guests will lead us in our 11 am Sanctuary service on Sunday, September 16. On Sunday, September 23, our guests will tell us about life in Malawi and concerns of The Church of Central Africa, Presbyterian (CCAP) during a combined CE class.
2012 International Day of Peace, September 21, 2012
The International Day of Peace will take place at ELPC this year. A Prayer Vigil in the Chapel and Sanctuary, will begin at 12:01 am in the early morning of September 21, and continue through midnight. The Labyrinth will also be available for walking and seated meditation. At 7 pm, there will be an international flag ceremony and blessing of the peace pole, followed by an Intrafaith Peace Service. East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. September’s “Food of the Month” is Rice-a-Roni.
East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the fall months, the Deacons will continue to collect men’s toothpaste, shampoo, and flip flops/shower shoes for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support! |
