Wayne MullerSign up for October 13 Wayne Muller retreat

Join us on Saturday, October 13 when ELPC will host avery special retreat on restoring the sacred rhythm of rest with a much-loved presenter, Wayne Muller. A Harvard Divinity School graduate and close friend and student of Henri Nouwen, Wayne is an ordained minister and best-selling author gifted with an infectious spirit and deep, poetic heart. Worship and prayer opportunities during the week

  • Centering Prayer: Every Tuesday, 7:00pm. Second floor library.
  • Labyrinth prayer walk: Every Monday from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, and every Wednesday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Note, no labyrinth walk on Monday October 8 due to the holiday. Labyrinth open Wednesday October 3 and October 10 at its usual time, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Regular schedule resumes the week of October 15. In the Sanctuary.
  • Taizé prayer service. Every Wednesday at 7pm, in the Chapel. The hour-long service includes sung prayers, simple, beautiful music, a time of silence, spoken and silent prayers, and opportunity for individual prayer. Next week (October 10), join us for a special service celebrating World Communion with the sharing of bread; followed after the service at 8:15 for Music on the Labyrinth.

Wednesdays in October: Bible 116, Adult Evening Bible Study with Rev. Bush and Rev. SchoenewolfBible study

Join us on Wednesdays this month from 5:45 pm to 6:55 pm (October 3, 10, 17, 24) for an evening Bible Study with Rev. Bush and Rev. Schoenewolf. We will start at 5:45 for a simple supper, followed by an opportunity to study scripture together. Be a part of the conversation as we explore the scriptural text that will be central to the worship service the following week. Bring your own bible, or bibles provided. Meets in the Second Floor Parlor.


MissionMission team in Mexico, October 3-10

Please keep our mission team in prayer! In cooperation with Frontera de Cristo, PC(USA) Border Ministry in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico and Douglas, Arizona, participants are working in the Migrant Resource Center, assisting on the desert migration trails, learning about Café Justo, and visiting Mexican maquilas (manufacturing operations).


Co(lab)trixHope Academy part of October 5 Unblurred

Co(lab)trix, a group of Hope Academy teaching artists and friends will present a multidisciplinary performance of "For the Girl Who Sleeps in Snow" throughout ELPC on Friday, October 5, at 7:00 and 8:30 pm. This exciting performance is part of Unblurred: First Fridays on Penn, and explores how we survive in a dangerous world. Meet at the door to the Narthex on Penn Avenue, across from the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater. Recommended for ages 13 and up. Wear comfortable shoes and be ready to walk and do some stairs. Read more


YouthYouth and Tween events, October 6 and 7

For youth in grades 6-12: Volunteer opportunity on October 6 at World Vision! Pack donations so they may be shipped to various individuals in need of clothing and supplies. Meets at ELPC at 8:00 am, returns at 11:45 am.

For youth in grades 4-6: Tween Trip to Crestfield’s Harvest Day Event, October 7! Leaves at 12:30 PM after worship and returns to the church 6:30. Enjoy hay rides, zip-line, pumpkin painting, festival foods, and worship.

Neighbors mission opportunity, Saturday October 6

Join us on Saturday, October 6 as we partner with Open Hand Ministries and Garfield Community Farm for a work day of fellowship, fun and projects! Spend a half day or whole day doing projects in the garden or at the house we are rehabbing in East Liberty. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Columbus DayELPC offices closed on Monday, October 8

In honor of Columbus Day, the church building and offices will be closed on Monday, October 8, during the day. The church will reopen at 7pm for regularly scheduled evening activities.

Food pantryEast End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Food Pantry
The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. October’s “Food of the Month” is Stuffing Mix.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the fall months, the Deacons will continue to collect men’s toothpaste, shampoo, and flip flops/shower shoes for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
