Spotlight
“Christianity in Aotearoa” (New Zealand), with Rev. Bush
Join us for the next two Sundays, January 20 and 27 during the Christian Education hour (9:45a - 10:45a) when Rev. Randy Bush will present on the early missionary activity that brought Christianity to New Zealand/Aotearoa. We will see how the church had both a positive and negative influence on the Maori people, and also discuss how far-reaching change follows whenever the Bible is translated into indigenous languages. - Journey with Scripture: Isaiah 62:1-5; Psalms 36:5-10; I Corinthians 12:1-11; John 2:1-11. Second floor library.
- Seekers: “Christianity in Aotearoa” (New Zealand), with Rev. Bush. Joint class with the Contemporaries. Meets in the Second Floor Parlor.
- Soul Food: We begin our discussions on chapter 1 in Things Hidden: Scripture as Spirituality, by Richard Rohr. Pastor’s Conference Room, second floor.
- Young Adults: All adults in their 20s and 30s--married, single, partnered, with or without children--are welcome! Join us for a series of Sunday School classes this spring as we focus on what happens after we die. We begins with celebrated writer Rob Bell’s most recent tome, Love Wins. - Centering Prayer: Centering Prayer meets every Tuesday evenings. Join us tonight,
January 15, 7:00pm. Second floor library.
- Labyrinth prayer walk: Come away from the hectic and busy for some quiet, prayerful moments with God: Join us Mondays from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm; or Wednesdays, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
- Taizé prayer service: Every Wednesday at 7pm, in the Chapel. The hour-long service includes sung, spoken, and silent prayers, beautiful music, a time of silence, and opportunity for individual prayer. Join us after the service this Wednesday, January 16, for Music on the Labyrinth.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, January 20 | Music at 3:30, Service at 4pm
On Sunday, Jan 20, ELPC is proud to host the 2013 Kelso Lecture in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. offered cooperatively by East End Cooperative Ministry and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Music begins at 3:30 pm, with the program at 4 pm in the Sanctuary. The keynote speaker will be nationally-known civil rights attorney John C. Brittain, Professor of Law at the University of the District of Columbia. There also will be musical performances by Hope Academy, The Neighborhood Academy Drummers, Community Day School, and the Missionary Temple; and the Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church Men’s Choir. The program will conclude with a time for questions and a reception. Those attending are asked to bring canned or non-perishable food donations to support the EECM food pantry.
Cathedral Concerts: Biblical Broadway! January 27, 4pm
The ELPC Chancel Choir section leaders will present an eclectic program of solo and ensemble works on Sunday, January 27 at 4 pm in the Chapel. Please invite your friends to join us for this delightful afternoon of music from this talented group of musicians! A freewill offering will be accepted.

The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. January’s “Food of the Month” is Rice-a-Roni.
East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the winter months, the Deacons are collecting warm socks, hats, scarves, and gloves for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support! |
