Poverty Taskforce

Sojourner House MOMS Partnership
Sun., July 13, at 11:30 am
The Education Team of the Poverty Task Force and the Women and Children’s Task Force will host a meeting on Sun., July 13 in Room 234 following the 10 am Courtyard Worship service to inform members about an exciting partnership between ELPC and Sojourner House MOMS. Ms. Joann Cyganovich, the program’s executive director, will be with us to discuss this initiative.

S.H. MOMS is an award-winning, faith-based recovery program that provides permanent, supportive housing to homeless, single mothers who have been diagnosed with drug or alcohol addiction and a mental health disorder. S.H. MOMS is completing an expansion project that will add 10 apartments in three newly renovated facilities on Hays and Black Streets in East Liberty. By late summer, 40-50 children and youth up to age 18 are expected to be in residence with their mothers.

The initial focus of ELPC’s involvement at S.H. MOMS will be to provide academic tutoring and “homework helper” support in a state-of-the-art Learning Center designed to provide age-appropriate educational resources for the children, youth and parents. This Learning Center has been designed and installed by the Homeless Children’s Educational Fund.

All members of the congregation who are interested in helping to eradicate the blight of poverty in our community by improving children’s education are encouraged to attend this meeting.
