American Guild of Organists' Pipe Organ Encounters

Dr. J Richard Szeremany instructed as ELPC/Pittsburgh hosted the American Guild of Organists.

The American Guild of Organists (AGO) sponsors Pipe Organ Encounters for young people (POE) and Pipe Organ Encounters for Adults (POE+) in order to recognize and support individuals who have an interest in beginning study of the pipe organ.

AGO, through its local Pittsburgh Chapter, sponsored a POE+ at Duquesne University in June. Dr. Szeremany was one of a dozen musicians selected from around the country as faculty for POE+. In the mornings, students participated in classes focusing on the basics of organ playing, its history, registration, organ construction, historical repertoire and other related musical subjects. Afternoons were devoted to private instruction at organs in churches around the city, including the Chapel and Sanctuary organs at ELPC.

ELPC is pleased to have participated in this event and for its role in preparing musicians for tomorrow’s worship.
