DESCRIPTION:Pittsburgh Pride events are opportunities to celebrate and support Pittsburgh’s diverse community of LGBTQ+ people and their allies. ELPC’s LGBTQ Ministry members have prayerfully and thoughtfully selected several Pride events sponsored by different Pittsburgh Pride organizations so that we might reach a wide audience. As people of faith\, these are excellent opportunities for us to be a public witness to God’s love and justice for all God’s people. \nAll members of our faith family are invited to stand for love and justice this summer. Read about the events below and consider attending and/or volunteering. You’re also encouraged to wear ELPC regalia at these events so folks know we are there. SUMMARY:Systemic Racism: Discovering Our Implicit Bias
DESCRIPTION:Throughout 2018\, ELPC’s Mission Board will be presenting a series of events\, titled Facing Systemic Racism. Discussions of racism often involve our personal experiences. What we may not realize is how racism in our social systems and institutions impacts our racial relationships. To tackle racism in our society\, we need to acknowledge the systems in our society that create institutional racism and racial privilege. \nJoin us for the third program in our series\, titled “Systemic Racism: Discovering Our Implicit Bias.” Our discussion and activities will explore these questions: \n\nWhat exactly is implicit bias?\nHow does it work?\nWhy is it important to understand and recognize it?\nWhat can I do about it?\n\nWe will share a potluck dinner together\, beginning at 5:30 pm.
