SUMMARY:Environmental Book Club: Braiding Sweetgrass
DESCRIPTION:The Environmental Team of the Justice Committee invites you to read Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer (2013\, 390 pages)\, and then join us on Thursday\, October 29\, 7 pm\, for a discussion on Zoom. \nThe subtitle of the book is “Indigenous Wisdom\, Scientific Knowledge\, and the Teachings of Plants.” As a botanist and professor of Environmental Biology\, Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation\, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. She brings these lenses of knowledge together to show that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. \nThe book is a New York Times best seller\, and people are finding this work to be grounding\, calming\, and quietly revolutionary. \nPlease contact Nancy Heastings for Zoom information or for questions.
