DESCRIPTION:Adult Sunday School\nClasses for adults meet on Sundays\, 9:45–10:45 am\, from September through May\, unless otherwise noted. \nJourney with Scripture | Highland Room and Zoom \nThe Journey with Scripture class reads together various Scripture readings for that week in worship\, whether from the lectionary or our pastor’s choosing. These readings span across the entire Bible. The class uses a variety of methods of engaging the scripture texts and is conversational in nature. Prior knowledge of the Scriptures is not necessary for participation. Rev. Henk Bossers and other class members facilitate the class. Contact Sara Hackett for Zoom information. \nSeekers | Garth Overlook Room and Zoom \nThe Seekers class desires to grow in religious understanding\, insight\, faith\, and practice. We create a space for spiritual and intellectual exploration\, enrichment\, and sharing. Together we seek a broad\, inclusive dialogue\, including respecting and learning about other faith traditions. All viewpoints are welcomed and encouraged at our classes. The Seekers class consist of speakers and videos\, with time for sharing and questions. Contact Gwen Puza for Zoom information. \nSoul Food | Good Samaritan Room and Zoom \nSoul Food is an adult class that focuses on feeding our spirits and nurturing our awareness of God’s presence. We use a prayerful\, contemplative format that includes small group discussions of spiritually nourishing texts and personal experiences. Our upcoming books are So You Want to Talk About Race\, by Ijeoma Oluo\, to be followed in November by Season’s Greetings\, by Ruth Boling. New participants are always welcome! DESCRIPTION:Join us for worship in the Sanctuary each Sunday\, 11 am\, or via livestream on YouTube or Facebook. Printed copies of the weekly bulletin and announcements are available\, or you may download a digital version for viewing on your mobile device or tablet. \nClick here to see details for this week’s worship services. \n\nAbout ELPC’s Sanctuary Worship Service\nOur Sanctuary worship service is our largest service\, offering a traditional worship experience with thought-provoking sermons and music from our Chancel Choir and organ to reinforce the spirit of praise and reverence. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. The service is led by ELPC’s senior pastor or other members of the pastoral staff. Special guest pastors or speakers periodically lead the service. \nChildren are invited to the chancel steps each Sunday to hear their own message before heading upstairs to Sacred Stories\, our Sunday school classes for children. Picture Bibles and activities are in the sanctuary for children who want to stay in worship. The nursery is available for children birth through age 3 to hear stories and play.

SUMMARY:ELPC Tower Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join our tour guide following worship to climb the heights of our church’s landmark central tower\, and gain insights into its history and construction. High above the bustle of the streets below\, you will have an opportunity to view the entire East Liberty valley and beyond from the 300 foot spire of ELPC. The climb requires a bit of stamina\, as there are 333 steps total (equivalent to about 13 stories)\, many of which are very narrow and circular. Please wear pants and comfortable\, closed-toe shoes. The tour is not recommended for children under 12\, those with heart or respiratory conditions\, people with fear of heights or small enclosed spaces. \nThe tour capacity is limited to a total of 20 participants. You must pre-register for the tour online. \nRegister \nPlease gather at the Highland entrance following worship\, and allow 45–60 minutes for the tour. There is no cost to participate\, but free-will donations are gratefully accepted. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED FROM APRIL 12 – Unfortunately Dr. Gumbs is unable to join us on April 12 due to a back injury\, but we are so glad he and Olanna Miller were able to reschedule for May 31.  Please join us then! \nSunday\, May 31\, 2026 – 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary \nELPC members and friends should contact Dr. Ed Moore (EdM@coh.net) for complimentary tickets.  Tickets for the general public are available here: Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh Tickets \nVirtuoso performer Nathaniel Gumbs is joined by a guest soprano Olanna Miller\, née Goudeau\, to present a concert of classical and modern selections for organ and voice – including a few settings of spirituals. Mrs. Miller is a much-sought-after soloist\, having performed on stage nationally and notably on Season 9 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent. \nNathaniel Gumbs is a native of the Bronx\, NY and has performed throughout the United States and abroad\, including Antigua\, St. Thomas\, Ghana\, Paris\, and Munich\, and is consistently gathering new fans and followers. In a review of a recorded performance with bass-baritone Dashon Burton\, The New York Times described Nathaniel’s playing as “mature\, lyrical\, accurate and energetic\,” and that his performance was presented “deftly and with feeling.” \nDr. Gumbs currently serves as Director of Music at The Riverside Church in New York City. He earned his undergraduate degree from Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia\, his Master of Music degree from Yale University\, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. Nathaniel’s principal teachers include Steven Cooksey\, David Higgs\, and Martin Jean. \nPrior to his position at The Riverside Church\, Nathaniel served as Director of Chapel Music at Yale University where he worked with students\, faculty\, and guests to coordinate music for three worshiping communities: the University Church in Battell Chapel\, the Yale Divinity School community\, and the Berkeley Divinity School community\, the latter two communities both worshiping in Marquand Chapel. He also served previously as Interim Minister of Music and Fine Arts at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem\, NY\, and as Director of Music and Arts and Church Organist at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte\, NC\, where he led several hundred volunteer musicians and staff in four choirs and other ensembles. \nNathaniel maintains a vibrant career as a concert organist\, managed by Karen McFarlane Artists\, Inc. He is also featured on various recording projects through GIA publications with Dr. James Abbington\, choral projects with award-winning conductor Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand\, and recordings of revised choral works by Margaret Bonds with NY Philharmonic’s Chorus Director\, Dr. Malcolm Merriweather. Nathaniel is a contributing composer in Pulling Out The Stops\, Volume 3\, Congregational Song Accompaniments for Organ\, published by Augsburg Fortress. Most recently\, he released his first organ solo project entitled King of Kings: Organ Music of Black Composers\, Past and Present.
