SUMMARY:Bread for the World Offering of Letters
DESCRIPTION:The Neighbors Committee will sponsor the Fellowship Time to lift up its ministry teams and provide an opportunity to participate in the 2015 Bread for the World Offering of Letters. This year’s Offering of Letters to Congress focuses on the need for the re-authorization of the Childhood Nutrition Act. This act provides the funding for vital feeding programs (school breakfast and lunch programs\, summer feeding programs\, and WIC) for children who face hunger on a daily basis. Without the re-authorization\, these programs will end on September 30\, 2015. \nPlease take a few minutes of your time to stop by the McKelvy Room after the 10 am worship service on June 7 and write a brief letter to Congress asking them to reauthorize this program. Additional information and materials will be provided. Then browse the ministry team tables to learn more about the important work of the Neighbor’s Mission Committee.

SUMMARY:Child Safety Training
DESCRIPTION:In January 2015\, expanded laws went into effect in Pennsylvania to ensure the welfare and safety of all children. As an intergenerational community with many programs specifically serving children and youth\, ELPC is required to modify our internal Child Safety Policies so that they are current with state law. ELPC’s Session has updated our policies to adopt the new standards\, and we are required to be in compliance by July 1\, 2015. \nAll ELPC staff and volunteers who may come in contact with children or youth are required to have: \n\nUpdated criminal background checks and Act 33/34 clearances\,\nFBI background checks for those who have lived outside of Pennsylvania in the last 10 years (residents for 10 or more years must sign an affidavit confirming their residency)\,\nCompleted online training on mandatory reporting\, and\nParticipated in an ELPC child safety training session.\n\nIn order to facilitate our compliance with these laws\, ELPC will: \n\nPay for all background checks\,\nArrange a time for FBI fingerprinting to be held at ELPC\,\nProvide volunteers with the website for the mandatory reporting training session\, and\nOffer an ELPC child safety training session to discuss changes and answer questions.\n\nIf you are unable to attend but work with children\, please contact the Rev. Heather Schoenewolf at 412.441.3800 x21.
