DESCRIPTION:A Celebration of Diversity on the Eve of the Women’s March on Washington\nLet’s make things together. Eat together. Sing together. March together. Learn how to support each other and  empower those who have been marginalized – especially during the recent Presidential campaign – people of color\, immigrants\, women\, the LGBT community\, Muslims\, people with disabilities and survivors of sexual assault. \nDonations will be accepted to support the work of our artists and our social justice partners\, The ACLU and Thomas Merton Center. \n5:30 to 7:00 pm     Social Justice Art-Making\, Education and Organizing \nMake a poster for the Solidarity March (at 7 pm). We will hand these off to folks going to the Million Women March the next day. Paint a mural. Write letters. Learn how to contact and talk to your members of Congress. Eat tacos (from Blue Sparrow food truck) and desserts from the bake sale (yes\, you can contribute to the bake sale too\, if you’d like!). We will add participating organizations to this list as they are confirmed. \n6:00 to 7:00 pm     Poetry Reading by Words Without Walls \nWords Without Walls is a creative partnership between the Chatham MFA Creative Writing Program\, Allegheny County Jail\, State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh\, and Sojourner House\, a residential drug and alcohol treatment facility for mothers and their children. \n7:00 to 7:30 pm     Solidarity on the Square March \nWe will gather on the Whitfield side of the building\, across from Ace Hotel\, and march through East Liberty\, raising our posters\, voices and giant puppets in solidarity. \n7:30 to 9:00 pm     Peace\, Love and All That Jazz Performances \n“Art is a weapon in the struggle for ideas\, the class struggle.” — Amiri Baraka \n\nAnqwenique Wingfield and her band\, Kinectic\nKinetic performs songs immersed in the tropical sounds and rhythms of West Africa\, blended with contemporary jazz and R&B. ‘World of Wonder’\, the debut CD\, is available on iTunes\, Amazon\, and CDBaby. \nGizeLxanath and Ben Barson with the Afro-Yaqui Music Collective\nArt is Never Neutral in the struggle for a new world. SUMMARY:Misguided Angels: The Role of the Nervous System in Spiritual Growth
DESCRIPTION:Misguided Angels: Term 2\nFrom conception\, our brains develop from the bottom up: brain stem\, limbic system\, and then cortex. The nervous system is the first to develop\, with the primary responsibility of protecting us from danger. It operates through approach or avoid—going toward what nurtures us and away from what threatens us. From a young age\, we perceived our caregivers as doing both. Our personality becomes hardwired into our nervous system as a survival strategy\, setting patterns of thinking\, feeling\, and behavior. While they served us well in childhood\, these patterns limit us in adulthood. \nLearn about your individual patterns using the Enneagram as a map\, and how to work with the nervous system to expand your capacity for spiritual growth. \nThose who have completed Term 1 are welcome to join us for Term 2 on Mondays\, March 13–April 10\, from 6:30–9 pm. We will continue our learning\, but will add an experiential element to the academic teaching. (suggested donation is $50) \nClick here to download a registration form. \nABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR AND GUIDE\, KERRY O’DONNELL\nKerry O’Donnell has 25 years of experience working for the United States Institute of Peace\, Council for International Exchange of Scholars\, and American University. She has taught classes on interpersonal conflicts at Carnegie Mellon University’s Osher Institute\, and workshops for businesses and nonprofit organizations. Kerry also founded and directed a community victim-offender dialogue program in Washington D.C.\, and received the Jefferson Award for public service as a mediator for the Pennsylvania Office of Victim Advocate—facilitating dialogues between violent crime victims and offenders. \nKerry holds a Masters degree in Education\, is trained in Traumatic Stress Studies\, and is certified in Somatic Experiencing (Peter Levine) through the Trauma Institute. SUMMARY:Misguided Angels: The Role of the Nervous System in Spiritual Growth
DESCRIPTION:Misguided Angels: Term 2\nFrom conception\, our brains develop from the bottom up: brain stem\, limbic system\, and then cortex. The nervous system is the first to develop\, with the primary responsibility of protecting us from danger. It operates through approach or avoid—going toward what nurtures us and away from what threatens us. From a young age\, we perceived our caregivers as doing both. Our personality becomes hardwired into our nervous system as a survival strategy\, setting patterns of thinking\, feeling\, and behavior. While they served us well in childhood\, these patterns limit us in adulthood. \nLearn about your individual patterns using the Enneagram as a map\, and how to work with the nervous system to expand your capacity for spiritual growth. \nThose who have completed Term 1 are welcome to join us for Term 2 on Mondays\, March 13–April 10\, from 6:30–9 pm. Kerry also founded and directed a community victim-offender dialogue program in Washington D.C.\, and received the Jefferson Award for public service as a mediator for the Pennsylvania Office of Victim Advocate—facilitating dialogues between violent crime victims and offenders. \nKerry holds a Masters degree in Education\, is trained in Traumatic Stress Studies\, and is certified in Somatic Experiencing (Peter Levine) through the Trauma Institute. SUMMARY:Chancel Choir Rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7–8:30 pm\, in the Sanctuary from September through early June. Sunday morning rehearsals are at 10:00 am\, in preparation for the worship service. The choir provides musical leadership at our Sanctuary worship service on Sundays at 11 am. \nNo audition is required\, just the desire to learn and have fun as we prepare to lead worship. The choir is open to everyone in high school and older. \nDr. Ed Moore is the director of the Chancel Choir and Gabe D’Abruzzo is the accompanist. \nCome join us and make a joyful noise!
