SUMMARY:Colour of Music Black Classical Musicians' Virtuosi
DESCRIPTION:The 20-piece Colour of Music Virtuosi is an elite group of musicians selected as ambassadors of the Colour of Music Festival. They perform innovative repertoire incorporating the works of composers of African descent alongside traditional classical works. Each performance will include the ‘father’ of black classical music and predecessor to Mozart\, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Violin Concertos No. 1 and No. 2 (performed only for the second time in the United States) as well as works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, including his Adagio and Fugue in C Minor\, and Symphony No. 29 in A Major. \nThere are thousands of prodigiously talented classical principals\, composers\, and performers of African descent throughout the world. Yet their opportunities to grace concert stages of major American orchestras are rare to non-existent. The Festival has sought to change this and we are thankful for Carnegie Mellon’s keen interest in presenting this sampling of the Colour of Music Festival and its exceptional talent. Lee Pringle\, Festival Founder and General Manager  \nMaestro Marlon Daniel\, Music Director of New York-based Ensemble Du Monde\, Artistic Director of Festival International Saint-Georges\, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Sofia Sinfonietta in Bulgaria\, will serve as conductor.  “The selections chosen for our debut in Pittsburgh are première pieces rarely performed. Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Violin Concerto No. 1 with soloist Jessica McJunkins and No. 2 with soloist Josh Henderson have never been performed in Pittsburgh. I am excited about conducting his works and those of his contemporary Mozart\,” said Marlon Daniel\, Conductor. \nTickets are $35 for adults; $25 for seniors 65 +; $10 students. Purchase tickets online with a credit card; or at the door with cash or check. \nTo Purchase tickets ONLINE click here \nor call (866) 441-9962\nHope Academy and ELPC families can request comp tickets HERE. \nABOUT THE COLOUR OF MUSIC FESTIVAL \nBased in Charleston\, South Carolina and organized in 2013\, the Colour of Music Festival\, Inc.\, presents a diverse classical repertoire of Baroque\, Classical and 20th century music at the highest of musical standards to diverse audiences. Now in its fourth year the Colour of Music Festival offers a musical kaleidoscope highlighting the impact and historical significance of black classical composers and performers on American and world culture. The fourth annual Colour of Music Festival will take place October 19-23\, 2016 at various venues throughout historic Charleston\, South Carolina. www.colourofmusic.org \n  \n
