In this emptiness\, we may see the world as if for the first time. We may see others as they are and we may find that the Kingdom of Heaven is truly within us; that we are living in God and God in us. \nThe Spiritual Life Committee invites you to join John Benedict in the Chapel on Tuesdays\, 6–7 pm\, for an hour devoted to meditation. The session will include an opening reading\, silent sitting\, and walking. No experience necessary\, all are welcome. \nJohn Benedict is a retired psychologist and a longtime student and practitioner of Insight Meditation.

DESCRIPTION:“The ladder leading to the Kingdom is concealed within you\, that is\, in your soul”—Saint Isaac of Syria. \nMeditation is the practice of “looking deeply.” In silence and withdrawal from the world of everyday concerns\, we turn our attention inward and calm our bodies and minds. In this emptiness\, we may see the world as if for the first time. We may see others as they are and we may find that the Kingdom of Heaven is truly within us; that we are living in God and God in us. \nThe Spiritual Life Committee invites you to join John Benedict in the Chapel on Tuesdays\, 6–7 pm\, for an hour devoted to meditation. The session will include an opening reading\, silent sitting\, and walking. No experience necessary\, all are welcome. \nJohn Benedict is a retired psychologist and a longtime student and practitioner of Insight Meditation.

DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered what prayer is or if you even believe in prayer? Have you ever longed to pray more but struggled to know how? Whether you feel like a novice or practiced expert\, we all need to practice prayer. There is no right or wrong way to pray\, nor is there no one starting point or a finish line. There is only the continual showing up to practice prayer and allowing our deepest longings for God\, others and the world to emerge. Together we will talk about our struggles and hopes with prayer and explore a wide variety of prayer forms\, including body prayer\, prayer beads\, icons\, silent\, written fixed-hour prayer and prayer as simple awareness in life. It will be playful\, inspiring and interactive with lots of time to practice together. \nPlease register using the form below. You only need to register ONCE for the series\, although this form is found in all 4 instances of this event\, it is just there for ease of access to people joining. \n\n\n“Prayer is easy only for beginners and for those who are already Saints. During all the long years in between\, it is difficult. Why? Because prayer has the same inner dynamics as love\, and love is sweet only in its initial stage\, when we first fall in love\, and again in its final\, mature stage. In between\, love is hard work\, dogged fidelity\, and needs willful commitment beyond what is normally provided by our emotions and our imagination. DESCRIPTION:Adult Sunday School\nClasses for adults meet on Sundays\, 9:45–10:45 am\, from September through May\, unless otherwise noted. \nJourney with Scripture | Highland Room and Zoom \nThe Journey with Scripture class reads together various Scripture readings for that week in worship\, whether from the lectionary or our pastor’s choosing. These readings span across the entire Bible. The class uses a variety of methods of engaging the scripture texts and is conversational in nature. Prior knowledge of the Scriptures is not necessary for participation. Rev. Henk Bossers and other class members facilitate the class. Contact Sara Hackett for Zoom information. \nSeekers | Garth Overlook Room and Zoom \nThe Seekers class desires to grow in religious understanding\, insight\, faith\, and practice. We create a space for spiritual and intellectual exploration\, enrichment\, and sharing. Together we seek a broad\, inclusive dialogue\, including respecting and learning about other faith traditions. All viewpoints are welcomed and encouraged at our classes. The Seekers class consist of speakers and videos\, with time for sharing and questions.
