SUMMARY:Listening for God's Heartbeat Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The ELPC Spiritual Life Committee invites you on a weekend retreat to explore ways of listening for God’s Heartbeat—seeking God in goodness\, creation\, imagination and loving action through practice. Join us Friday–Sunday\, April 24–26\, at the Villa Maria Education & Spirituality Center in Pulaski\, Pennsylvania. \nOur retreat will be lead by Rev. Jeff Eddings and based on Phillip Newell’s book\, Listening for the Heartbeat of God: Celtic Daily Prayer. Within our normal rhythm between solitude and community and gathering together and scattering into silence\, Jeff will invite us into the rich stream of Celtic spirituality through ways of listening for God. \n\nWe will explore different movements of listening—for goodness\, within creation\, for God in all things\, with imagination\, and in action. Jeff will pair a reflection on a chapter with a contemplative practice such as reimagining the Jesus Prayer\, walking attentively in creation\, gathering the graces\, engaging the imagination\, and embracing a “chaos of uncalculating love.” \n\nPlease register by Sunday\, April 12. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Experiencing God in Nature & Designing Restoration in Community
DESCRIPTION:Do you often feel more connected to God in the natural world? Do you ever wonder how we can make ANY difference in the increasingly large and systemic climate challenges we face? Well\, we invite you to join us for a time of intergenerational conversation and discernment with John Creasy and Evan Clendein of Wild Indigo. They will present to us the possibility of us participating in small groups (“Guilds”) to discover and live into God’s call to be more fully part of creation and its restoration\, and find ways to share this call with the life of their congregation\, wider church\, and world. \nIf this is something that interests or intrigues you\, please email Sara Hacket or Pastor BJ Woodworth to let us know if you can join us.

SUMMARY:Presbyterian Women Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:It is said that Emmaus is where we go to escape. Imagine the despair and confusion of the two disciples walking to Emmaus three days after Jesus’ crucifixion. They had hoped that Jesus of Nazareth was the one to redeem Israel. Moreover\, that Sunday morning\, Mary Magdalene and the other women reported that Jesus had risen from the grave. \nAs the disciples walked to Emmaus\, a stranger joined them. The disciples did not recognize Jesus until they shared a meal with this stranger! The risen Christ may come to us in unfamiliar guises\, when we least expect him. \nJoin us for our lesson\, Finding Our Identity in Christ: When You Are Walking with Jesus – The Road to Emmaus\, on Monday\, May 4\, 7–8:30 pm (online only)\, or Tuesday\, May 12\, 10 am–12 pm (in-person only). Tuesday morning Bible Study will meet in-person only in the Fellowship Room\, and will be followed by a potluck lunch. Please bring a dish to share; beverages will be provided. \nEmail PW.ELPC@gmail.com with any questions. Click here for more information about Presbyterian Women at ELPC. \nJoin via Zoom

SUMMARY:Taizé Social Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the first Wednesday of each month following our Taizé prayer service for a time of fellowship with some light refreshments in the Narthex. \nTaizé is a unique spiritual community at ELPC\, and we desire to have time for those who gather to get to know one another\, converse\, and move from solitude into community and expand the connection that exists amidst our prayerful songs and quiet meditation.

SUMMARY:Listening for God's Heartbeat
DESCRIPTION:Listening for God’s Heartbeat.\nFacilitated by Rev. Jeff Eddings (bio below)\nWednesday’s\, 5:30-6:30pm (light dinner @6:30pm)\nApril 29\, May 6\, 13\, and 20 \nDrawing upon\, John Philip Newell’s Book Listening for the Heartbeat of God: Celtic Daily Prayer\, we will explore the rich stream of Celtic spirituality to help us practice listening for God in our lives. We will explore different movements of listening — for goodness\, within creation\, for God in all things\, with our imagination\, and in action. \nYou may purchase the book and read along but it is not required. Each week we will reflect on a chapter and a contemplative practice such as reimagining the Jesus Prayer\, walking attentively in creation\, gathering the graces\, and engaging the imagination. \nRev. \nRev. Jeff Eddings\, currently serves as the Spiritual Formation and Coaching Associate for the 1001 New Worshiping Communities Initiative in the PC(USA). He oversees a network of 100 coaches and pastored Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community in Pittsburgh from 2004 to 2019. The Ignatian motto of ‘finding God in all things’ is one he seeks to live by. \nPlease register by completing the form below. You only need to register once for the entire series. (This sign-up form is listed under each date occurrence for convenience of folks joining mid-way through the series- which you are welcome to do!) \n\n \n \n 2026-04 Listening for God's Heartbeat\n Wed evening classes April 29- May 20 \n \n \n Step 1 of 2\n \n \n 50%\n \n \n Contact DetailsName(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Enter Email\n \n \n \n Confirm Email\n \n \n \n Phone(Required)Preferred Pronouns(Required)\n \n \n He/Him\n \n \n \n She/Her\n \n \n \n They/Them\n \n \n \n He/THEY\n \n \n \n She/THEY\n \n \n \n Other\n Please tell us what pronoun to use when addressing you.Do you have any dietary restrictions?(Required)\n \n None\n \n \n Vegetarian\n \n \n Vegan\n \n \n Non-dairy\n \n \n Gluten-free\n \n \n Allergies (specify in next question)\n Select AllWe will provide a light dinner and do our best to accommodate.Any other allergies or special needs we should be aware of?Address \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n Address Line 2\n \n \n City\n \n \n State / Province / Region\n \n \n ZIP / Postal Code\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Event DetailsHow did you hear about this event?Announcement at worshipEmail/newsletterSocial MediaGoogleWord of MouthFrom a Friend/Family MemberOtherOther:What church/organization are you a part of (if not ELPC)?e.g. RCC\, St. Mary's

SUMMARY:Cathedral Concert - Nathaniel Gumbs\, organist
DESCRIPTION:RESCHEDULED FROM APRIL 12 – Unfortunately Dr. Gumbs is unable to join us on April 12 due to a back injury\, but we are so glad he and Olanna Miller were able to reschedule for May 31.  Please join us then! \nSunday\, May 31\, 2026 – 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary \nELPC members and friends should contact Dr. Ed Moore (EdM@coh.net) for complimentary tickets.  Tickets for the general public are available here: Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh Tickets \nVirtuoso performer Nathaniel Gumbs is joined by a guest soprano Olanna Miller\, née Goudeau\, to present a concert of classical and modern selections for organ and voice – including a few settings of spirituals. Mrs. Miller is a much-sought-after soloist\, having performed on stage nationally and notably on Season 9 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent. \nNathaniel Gumbs is a native of the Bronx\, NY and has performed throughout the United States and abroad\, including Antigua\, St. Thomas\, Ghana\, Paris\, and Munich\, and is consistently gathering new fans and followers. In a review of a recorded performance with bass-baritone Dashon Burton\, The New York Times described Nathaniel’s playing as “mature\, lyrical\, accurate and energetic\,” and that his performance was presented “deftly and with feeling.” \nDr. Gumbs currently serves as Director of Music at The Riverside Church in New York City. He earned his undergraduate degree from Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia\, his Master of Music degree from Yale University\, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. Nathaniel’s principal teachers include Steven Cooksey\, David Higgs\, and Martin Jean. \nPrior to his position at The Riverside Church\, Nathaniel served as Director of Chapel Music at Yale University where he worked with students\, faculty\, and guests to coordinate music for three worshiping communities: the University Church in Battell Chapel\, the Yale Divinity School community\, and the Berkeley Divinity School community\, the latter two communities both worshiping in Marquand Chapel. He also served previously as Interim Minister of Music and Fine Arts at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem\, NY\, and as Director of Music and Arts and Church Organist at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte\, NC\, where he led several hundred volunteer musicians and staff in four choirs and other ensembles. \nNathaniel maintains a vibrant career as a concert organist\, managed by Karen McFarlane Artists\, Inc. He is also featured on various recording projects through GIA publications with Dr. James Abbington\, choral projects with award-winning conductor Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand\, and recordings of revised choral works by Margaret Bonds with NY Philharmonic’s Chorus Director\, Dr. Malcolm Merriweather. Nathaniel is a contributing composer in Pulling Out The Stops\, Volume 3\, Congregational Song Accompaniments for Organ\, published by Augsburg Fortress. Most recently\, he released his first organ solo project entitled King of Kings: Organ Music of Black Composers\, Past and Present.
