SUMMARY:Canceled: Lenten Book Study: White Awake
DESCRIPTION:  \nLent is a holy time for lament\, repentance\, and change. Many approach Lent with a commitment to “give up” a special treat\, behavior\, or habit. As part of our focus on Facing Systemic Racism\, the Mission Board encourages ELPC members and friends to embrace all aspects of Lent by engaging in an intentional read and weekly discussion of Daniel Hill’s book\, White Awake: An Honest Look at What It Means to be White. \nIn the book\, Pastor Hill reflects on a personal journey toward greater recognition of white privilege and white culture\, as well as how to effectively seek reconciliation among racial groups. This faith-based resource helps white people come to grips with the reality of privilege and institutional racism within ourselves\, our country\, and our churches. \nJoin us in the McKelvy Room. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and a light lunch will be served. Our discussion schedule is as follows: \n\nMarch 8 | Forward and Chapters 1–3 (45 pages)\nMarch 15 | Chapters 4–6 (53 pages)\nMarch 22 | Chapters 7–8 (44 pages)\nMarch 29 | Chapters 9–10 (44 pages)\n\nChildcare is available with reservation one week prior. SUMMARY:Canceled: Lenten Book Study: White Awake
DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, March 15\, our 8:45 am Journey worship service\, all Church School classes\, extended session\, and after worship meetings are CANCELED. \nOut of an abundance of caution\, we are encouraging members and friends to access our 11 am Sanctuary worship service online. \nDownload this week’s bulletin and announcements. To stream our Sanctuary worship service\, subscribe to our YouTube channel or follow us on Facebook and you will receive a notification when streaming begins. \nYou’re also encouraged to read about the protocols ELPC leadership has established in response to COVID-19 concerns. \nFor more information or to check the status of all scheduled events\, please visit ELPC.church. \n\nLent is a holy time for lament\, repentance\, and change. Email Sara Hackett at SaraH@coh.net for details.

SUMMARY:Vigil for Justice
DESCRIPTION:The recent tragic murder of George Floyd has reminded us that the sin of racism coupled with the abuse of power by some in positions of authority still plagues our nation. People of faith\, especially those in the white community\, need to break their silence by acts of remorse\, solidarity\, and advocacy.\n\n\n \n\n\nEast Liberty Presbyterian Church (116 S. Highland Avenue\, Pgh)\, working in conjunction with the local chapter of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus\, is hosting a peaceful vigil on Wednesday\, June 3\, from 12 noon–1 pm. Those who wish to participate are invited to gather outside the church\, wearing a mask\, bringing a sign\, and maintaining safe social distancing as we will be surrounding the church as a visible witness for justice—remembering George Floyd\, Ahmaud Arbery\, Breonna Taylor\, Antwon Rose\, Jonny Gammage\, and others; remembering that Black Lives Matter; remembering that no one should be suffocated by having the breath of life or the breath of justice snuffed out by another.\n\n\n \n\n\nWe invite those interested in this act of faithful witness to join us at East Liberty Presbyterian Church this Wednesday.
