SUMMARY:An Un-Halloween Party at Hope Academy
DESCRIPTION:NO tricks and NO treats\,  but lots of fun dressing up for classes and private lessons on Halloween. \nThis is a dress-up day so use your imagination and come in your favorite costume. Keep it G-rated for all of the little ones (nothing scary\, bloody\, violent\, suggestive or adult-themed); and make sure you can move easily and safely (no boots\, flip flops\, bare feet\, or masks that obstruct vision). \nWe will have a photographer here to take photos of everyone and the teaching artists will incorporate your characters into the lessons for the day. \nPlease note: There will be an event on Penn Avenue and Highland Avenue will be blocked off to just before the circle driveway. Give yourselves enough time to navigate around the roadblock.

SUMMARY:Suzuki Music Information Session for Families with Young Children
DESCRIPTION:Children love music and movement; it’s natural – almost instinctual – for them to sing\, clap\, make rhythms\, and move. But how early should they get started in more formal classes and lessons? What instrument should they play? How do you know if they are ready? To help answer these questions\, Patricia Pavlack (President Suzuki Association of Pittsburgh and Registered Teacher Trainer\, Piano Suzuki Method)\, Beth Goldstein McKee (Registered Teacher Trainer\, Cello Suzuki Method) and Ken Trautman (Music Director\, Suzuki Association of Pittsburgh\, Suzuki Piano Teacher) will give a presentation about the Suzuki method and answer your questions. \nPlease RSVP by filling out this online form. \nThis information session is presented by the Suzuki Association of Pittsburgh in partnership with Hope Academy of Music and the Arts. \nIt will be held in room 234 at East Liberty Presbyterian Church.

After cutting her teeth in New York and Boston\, where she was a touring musician and played in other people’s bands\, Emotions and Math signals an assured new direction for Glaspy\, who’s 27 and grew up in Red Bluff\, California. She self-produced the album\, which frames her revealing ruminations in shards of jagged guitar rock. There is early buzz for the album; Rolling Stone hailed first single “You and I” for its “hot barbs of electric guitar.” \n7:00 BOY & BEAR\nNamed a “Top 5 Australian Acts You Need To Know Now” by USA Today\, Boy & Bear is Dave Hosking (lead singer/guitars)\, Killian Gavin (vocals/guitars)\, Tim Hart (drums\, vocals\, guitars)\, Jon Hart (vocals/keys/mandolin) and Dave Symes (bass). Their last album\, Harlequin Dream received several ARIA Award nominations\, including Best Group\, Best Rock Album and Producer Of The Year. This followed their award-winning debut LP Moonfire\, which won five ARIA awards in 2011. The quintet made their first trip to the States in two years when they appeared at SXSW 2014\, and followed it with a sold-out spring headline tour in support of Harlequin Dream. The band made their U.S. late night television debut on Conan. The band’s new album\, Limit Of Love\, was released October 9\, 2015. \n8:45 LUCIUS \nVocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig\, backed by bandmates Dan Molad\, Pete Lalish and Andy Burri–spent more than 250 days on the road in the past year. They’ve headlined all over the US and Europe\, including Bonnaroo\, Newport Folk Festival\, Lollapalooza\, End of The Road\, Reading and Leeds Festivals and more and shared the stage with a variety of musicians including Roger Waters\, Jack White\, Mavis Staples\, Jeff Tweedy\, Sara Bareilles\, The Head and the Heart\, Tegan and Sara\, and David Byrne. Their critically acclaimed debut LP\, Wildewoman (2013) was followed by Good Grief in 2015.

SUMMARY:Colour of Music Black Classical Musicians' Virtuosi
DESCRIPTION:The 20-piece Colour of Music Virtuosi is an elite group of musicians selected as ambassadors of the Colour of Music Festival. They perform innovative repertoire incorporating the works of composers of African descent alongside traditional classical works. Each performance will include the ‘father’ of black classical music and predecessor to Mozart\, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Violin Concertos No. 1 and No. 2 (performed only for the second time in the United States) as well as works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, including his Adagio and Fugue in C Minor\, and Symphony No. 29 in A Major. \nThere are thousands of prodigiously talented classical principals\, composers\, and performers of African descent throughout the world. Yet their opportunities to grace concert stages of major American orchestras are rare to non-existent. The Festival has sought to change this and we are thankful for Carnegie Mellon’s keen interest in presenting this sampling of the Colour of Music Festival and its exceptional talent. Lee Pringle\, Festival Founder and General Manager  \nMaestro Marlon Daniel\, Music Director of New York-based Ensemble Du Monde\, Artistic Director of Festival International Saint-Georges\, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Sofia Sinfonietta in Bulgaria\, will serve as conductor.  “The selections chosen for our debut in Pittsburgh are première pieces rarely performed. Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Violin Concerto No. 1 with soloist Jessica McJunkins and No. 2 with soloist Josh Henderson have never been performed in Pittsburgh. I am excited about conducting his works and those of his contemporary Mozart\,” said Marlon Daniel\, Conductor. \nTickets are $35 for adults; $25 for seniors 65 +; $10 students. Purchase tickets online with a credit card; or at the door with cash or check. \nTo Purchase tickets ONLINE click here \nor call (866) 441-9962\nHope Academy and ELPC families can request comp tickets HERE. \nABOUT THE COLOUR OF MUSIC FESTIVAL \nBased in Charleston\, South Carolina and organized in 2013\, the Colour of Music Festival\, Inc.\, presents a diverse classical repertoire of Baroque\, Classical and 20th century music at the highest of musical standards to diverse audiences. Now in its fourth year the Colour of Music Festival offers a musical kaleidoscope highlighting the impact and historical significance of black classical composers and performers on American and world culture. The fourth annual Colour of Music Festival will take place October 19-23\, 2016 at various venues throughout historic Charleston\, South Carolina. www.colourofmusic.org \n  \n

SUMMARY:Interactive Music-Making Workshops - Join the CEEMI Band!
DESCRIPTION:CEEMI is an innovative piece of technology that turns any WiFi compatible device – a smartphone\, tablet\, desktop or laptop computer – into a collaborative electronic musical instrument on the fly. It was specially designed for the performance of music by groups of people without prior musical training. \nThe CEEMI Band will create music together in a series of free weekly collaborative creative music workshops happening this spring and culminating in a public performance. Members of the CEEMI Band will create new music together in a safe and fun environment\, through the combined usage of CEEMI\, simple games and other creative strategies accessible to all. It will be led by Gil Teixeira\, CEEMI’s creator and sound programmer\,  and is aimed at teens and young adults regardless of their musical background or skills. The only requirement is that CEEMI Band members must bring along their own smartphone or tablet to every session. \nThere will be a public performance on a day\, time and place as yet to be determined. \nPlease register HERE. \nGIL TEIXEIRA BIO\nGil Teixeira is a musician\, sound artist and creative leader that has developed in recent years a keen interest in the exploration of technology in collaborative music making contexts. He is a founding member of the instrumental post-rock band La La La Ressonance\, creator of CEEMI (a Collaborative Experiential Electronic Music Instrument) and has led creative projects in the USA\, Portugal\, Norway\, UK and Tanzania. He’s currently based in Pittsburgh\, PA.
