After cutting her teeth in New York and Boston\, where she was a touring musician and played in other people’s bands\, Emotions and Math signals an assured new direction for Glaspy\, who’s 27 and grew up in Red Bluff\, California. She self-produced the album\, which frames her revealing ruminations in shards of jagged guitar rock. There is early buzz for the album; Rolling Stone hailed first single “You and I” for its “hot barbs of electric guitar.” \n7:00 BOY & BEAR\nNamed a “Top 5 Australian Acts You Need To Know Now” by USA Today\, Boy & Bear is Dave Hosking (lead singer/guitars)\, Killian Gavin (vocals/guitars)\, Tim Hart (drums\, vocals\, guitars)\, Jon Hart (vocals/keys/mandolin) and Dave Symes (bass). Their last album\, Harlequin Dream received several ARIA Award nominations\, including Best Group\, Best Rock Album and Producer Of The Year. This followed their award-winning debut LP Moonfire\, which won five ARIA awards in 2011. SUMMARY:Colour of Music Black Classical Musicians' Virtuosi
DESCRIPTION:The 20-piece Colour of Music Virtuosi is an elite group of musicians selected as ambassadors of the Colour of Music Festival. They perform innovative repertoire incorporating the works of composers of African descent alongside traditional classical works. Each performance will include the ‘father’ of black classical music and predecessor to Mozart\, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Violin Concertos No. 1 and No. 2 (performed only for the second time in the United States) as well as works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, including his Adagio and Fugue in C Minor\, and Symphony No. 29 in A Major. \nThere are thousands of prodigiously talented classical principals\, composers\, and performers of African descent throughout the world. Yet their opportunities to grace concert stages of major American orchestras are rare to non-existent. The Festival has sought to change this and we are thankful for Carnegie Mellon’s keen interest in presenting this sampling of the Colour of Music Festival and its exceptional talent. Lee Pringle\, Festival Founder and General Manager  \nMaestro Marlon Daniel\, Music Director of New York-based Ensemble Du Monde\, Artistic Director of Festival International Saint-Georges\, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Sofia Sinfonietta in Bulgaria\, will serve as conductor.  “The selections chosen for our debut in Pittsburgh are première pieces rarely performed. Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Violin Concerto No. 1 with soloist Jessica McJunkins and No. 2 with soloist Josh Henderson have never been performed in Pittsburgh. I am excited about conducting his works and those of his contemporary Mozart\,” said Marlon Daniel\, Conductor. \nTickets are $35 for adults; $25 for seniors 65 +; $10 students. Purchase tickets online with a credit card; or at the door with cash or check. \nTo Purchase tickets ONLINE click here \nor call (866) 441-9962\nHope Academy and ELPC families can request comp tickets HERE. \nABOUT THE COLOUR OF MUSIC FESTIVAL \nBased in Charleston\, South Carolina and organized in 2013\, the Colour of Music Festival\, Inc.\, presents a diverse classical repertoire of Baroque\, Classical and 20th century music at the highest of musical standards to diverse audiences. Now in its fourth year the Colour of Music Festival offers a musical kaleidoscope highlighting the impact and historical significance of black classical composers and performers on American and world culture. The fourth annual Colour of Music Festival will take place October 19-23\, 2016 at various venues throughout historic Charleston\, South Carolina. www.colourofmusic.org \n  \n

SUMMARY:Meet the Music Teaching Artists Open House
DESCRIPTION:Meet the music teachers at Hope Academy of Music and the Arts to find out more about private voice and instrument lessons for your child. You may also register and schedule your lessons. \nChildren love music and movement; it’s natural – almost instinctual – for them to sing\, clap\, make rhythms\, and move. But how early should they get started in more formal classes and lessons? What instrument should they play? How do you know if they are ready? How long of a lesson should they take and often should they practice? To help answer these questions\, teaching artists from Hope Academy of Music and the Arts will be available to meet your child and let them listen to and touch various instruments. Suzuki Violin teachers will be available to talk about this approach and to measure new students for violins. \nThe following teachers are confirmed for the Open House: \nLiza Barley – Suzuki Violin\, Violin\, Viola\, Cello\, Suzuki Piano\nLaura Reynolds Carmichael – Piano\nSarah Greenwald – Violin\, Viola\nLee Kikuchi – Piano\, Violin\, Cello\, Voice\nEmily Swora – Voice\, Music Discovery

SUMMARY:"This Girl Laughs\, This Girl Cries\, This Girl Does Nothing" Performance #6
DESCRIPTION:“This Girl Laughs\, The Girl Cries\, This Girl Does Nothing” is Finegan Kruckmeyer’s award-winning\, fairytale-esque play about the journey of three sisters who take different paths\, have incredible adventures\, and end up back where they started\, transformed into independent women. This highly original tale explores complex themes of love\, loss and self-discovery. \nUsing an innovative DIY design aesthetic\, plus shadow puppets and an original soundscape and songs\, Hope Academy’s Teen Theater Company (HAT Co) brings this poetic\, humorous and action-packed story to life for young people and adults\, ages 8 and up. (The age restriction is due to the intimate theater setting as well as the content: death of a mother and children being abandoned by their parents). \n[vimeo id=”128407852″]\nThere will be six performances on Saturday\, May 23 and Sunday\, May 24 at 1 pm\, 4 pm and 7 pm. \nTickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and youth.
