DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Taizé service on All Saints’ Day as we remember all of the people in our lives who are no longer with us. \nOur All Saints’ Procession will begin and end in the Chapel\, but will include moving through the Narthex and Sanctuary before gathering in the Trinity Chapel to sing and pray by candlelight. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this moving service of remembrance and hope. \n\nELPC offers evening prayers with chants from Taizé every Wednesday at 7 pm\, in the Chapel. The hour-long service includes sung prayers\, beautiful music\, a time of silence\, spoken and silent prayers\, and opportunities for individual prayer and anointing. This is ELPC’s largest service\, offering a traditional worship service with thought-provoking sermons\, and the music of our Chancel Choir and organ to reinforce the spirit of praise and reverence. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. DESCRIPTION:The three major world religions—Judaism\, Christianity\, and Islam—all share a common foundation in the life of the patriarch Abraham. God’s covenant with Abraham and his wife Sarah included the promise that their children will prosper and become the 12 tribes of ancient Israel. God’s promise of protection was given to Abraham’s servant Hagar\, who bore a son\, Ishmael\, to whom the Islamic faith traces its roots back to Abraham. And Christianity saw in the promises given to Abraham and Sarah a precursor to the covenant of grace and life made known in the incarnate Son of God\, Jesus Christ. \nPastor Randy will be joined by Rabbi Jamie Gibson (Temple Sinai) and Imam Mufti Abdul Wajid (Islamic Center of Pittsburgh) to explore our common faith heritage grounded in Abraham’s story. DESCRIPTION:Rejoicing in God’s beautiful creation and seeking to promote healthy\, sustainable lifestyles\, ELPC will host a Blessing of the Bikes service on. People are encouraged to ride their bikes to ELPC and gather on the Penn Avenue side for a time of prayer\, dedication\, and celebration. Non-bike riders are welcome! \nParticipants of all ages can take part in a short ride up to Highland Park and back. There also will be refreshments available after the blessing service\, and representatives from BikePittsburgh and the “Healthy Ride” BikeShare programs will be present. \nJoin us for this special intergenerational\, congregational event. \nAs a reminder\, we will not have our Journey or Sanctuary worship services on Sun.\, May 1\, due to the Pittsburgh Marathon.

Herbert Nelson\, II\, to ELPC to share his insights about the social justice agenda of our denomination and lead us in worship. As we move through Lent\, Dr. Nelson will assuredly encourage us to work for a faith in which justice “rolls down like a mighty river.” \nDr. Nelson serves as the director of the PC(USA) Office of Public Witness in Washington\, D.C. He lobbies\, educates\, and strives to implement the justice goals set by our church’s General Assembly. He is a third generation Presbyterian pastor\, ordained in 1986\, and has served congregations in North Carolina and Tennessee. \nThis service is held in the Sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. We extend a warm welcome our Latino friends and include several prayers in our service bulletin in English and Spanish. This is ELPC’s largest service\, offering a traditional worship service with thought-provoking sermons\, and the music of our Chancel Choir and organ to reinforce the spirit of praise and reverence. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. Children are invited to the chancel steps to hear their own message with one of the pastors. The service is led by ELPC’s senior pastor or other members of the pastoral staff.
