SUMMARY:End of Life Issues
DESCRIPTION:A spiritual event? A medical event? Or\, increasingly\, is it a legal event?\nMany of us in our lifetime become the family member or friend with the responsibility to handle the affairs of a person who dies. Join us as Carolyn Russ\, attorney at law\, shares what tools are available\, your rights and expectations as a decision maker\, and the paper work you will need in such a situation. Having this knowledge now will provide both you and your loved one or dear friend the preparation time to have those difficult discussions that need to take place before a tragedy or a serious illness changes their lives as well as yours. \nA light lunch will be served.

SUMMARY:Sanctuary Worship
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special service led by our youth! Members of our senior high Church School class will prepare the liturgy\, and our graduating seniors will share their reflections. Please be a part of this special service\, as we give thanks for the gifts of our youth and praise God together! \nThis service is held in the sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. We extend a warm welcome our Latino friends and include several prayers in our service bulletin in English and Spanish. This is ELPC’s largest service\, offering a traditional worship service with thought-provoking sermons\, and the music of our Chancel Choir and organ to reinforce the spirit of praise and reverence. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. Children are invited to the chancel steps to hear their own message with one of the pastors. The service is led by ELPC’s senior pastor or other members of the pastoral staff. Special guest pastors or speakers periodically lead the service. \nSEE DETAILS FOR THIS WEEK’S WORSHIP SERVICES HERE.

SUMMARY:The Search for Truth about Islam
DESCRIPTION:Join Michele Bossers as she leads a book study on Ben Daniel’s The Search for Truth about Islam\, sponsored by the Justice Committee. The book is available for $10 online\, and two copies can be found in the ELPC Library. \nIn his book\, Presbyterian pastor Ben Daniel tackles common stereotypes and misconceptions that tend to define Islam in the popular imagination. Daniel also looks at Christianity’s own history of violence and explores what he calls “the American cult of fear\,” particularly as it relates to the rise of Islamophobia in the United States. Blending travel narrative\, interviews\, and well-crafted storytelling\, Daniel helps debunk the myths and put a human face on Islam in America. \n“Those looking for a basic introduction and a refutation of common stereotypes will welcome Daniel’s straightforward prose and friendly\, approachable tone.” —Publishers Weekly

This followed their award-winning debut LP Moonfire\, which won five ARIA awards in 2011. The quintet made their first trip to the States in two years when they appeared at SXSW 2014\, and followed it with a sold-out spring headline tour in support of Harlequin Dream. The band made their U.S. late night television debut on Conan. The band’s new album\, Limit Of Love\, was released October 9\, 2015. \n8:45 LUCIUS \nVocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig\, backed by bandmates Dan Molad\, Pete Lalish and Andy Burri–spent more than 250 days on the road in the past year.
