Featured on the second half of the concert will be a silent film accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin’s The Immigrant. \n \nDavid Briggs is an internationally renowned organist whose performances are acclaimed for their musicality\, virtuosity\, and ability to excite and engage audiences of all ages. With an extensive repertoire spanning five centuries\, he is known across the globe for his brilliant organ transcriptions of symphonic music by composers such as Mahler\, Schubert\, Tchaikovsky\, Elgar\, Bruckner\, Ravel\, and Bach. Fascinated by the art of Improvisation since a child\, David also frequently performs improvisations to silent films such as Phantom of the Opera\, Hunchback of Notre-Dame\, Nosferatu\, Jeanne d’Arc\, Metropolis\, as well as a variety of Charlie Chaplin films. \nAt the age of 17\, David obtained his FRCO (Fellow of the Royal College of Organists) diploma\, winning all the prizes and the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. From 1981-84 he was the Organ Scholar at King’s College\, Cambridge University\, during which time he studied organ with Jean Langlais in Paris. The first British winner of the Tournemire Prize at the St Albans International Improvisation Competition\, he also won the first prize in the International Improvisation Competition at Paisley. Subsequently David held positions at Hereford\, Truro and Gloucester Cathedrals. He is currently Artist-in-Residence at St James Cathedral\, Toronto.\nDavid’s schedule includes more than 60 concerts a year\, spanning several continents. Deeply committed to making organ music vibrant for future generations\, he enjoys giving pre-concert lectures designed to make organ music more accessible to audiences. In addition\, he teaches at Cambridge (UK)\, frequently serves on international organ competition juries\, and gives masterclasses at colleges and conservatories across the U.S. and Europe. \nDavid Briggs is also a prolific composer and his works range from full scale oratorios to works for solo instruments. He has recorded a DVD\, and 30 CDs\, many of which include his own compositions and transcriptions.

SUMMARY:Bread for the World Offering of Letters
DESCRIPTION:The Neighbors Committee will sponsor the Fellowship Time to lift up its ministry teams and provide an opportunity to participate in the 2015 Bread for the World Offering of Letters. This year’s Offering of Letters to Congress focuses on the need for the re-authorization of the Childhood Nutrition Act. This act provides the funding for vital feeding programs (school breakfast and lunch programs\, summer feeding programs\, and WIC) for children who face hunger on a daily basis. Without the re-authorization\, these programs will end on September 30\, 2015. \nPlease take a few minutes of your time to stop by the McKelvy Room after the 10 am worship service on June 7 and write a brief letter to Congress asking them to reauthorize this program. Additional information and materials will be provided. Then browse the ministry team tables to learn more about the important work of the Neighbor’s Mission Committee.

SUMMARY:Sanctuary Worship
DESCRIPTION:This special service is written and led by our ELPC youth\, and graduating seniors will share their stories of faith. \nThis service is held in the sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. We extend a warm welcome our Latino friends and include several prayers in our service bulletin in English and Spanish. This is ELPC’s largest service\, offering a traditional worship service with thought-provoking sermons\, and the music of our Chancel Choir and organ to reinforce the spirit of praise and reverence. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. Children are invited to the chancel steps to hear their own message with one of the pastors. The service is led by ELPC’s senior pastor or other members of the pastoral staff. Special guest pastors or speakers periodically lead the service. \nSEE DETAILS FOR THIS WEEK’S WORSHIP services HERE.

SUMMARY:"This Girl Laughs\, This Girl Cries\, This Girl Does Nothing" Performance #6
DESCRIPTION:“This Girl Laughs\, The Girl Cries\, This Girl Does Nothing” is Finegan Kruckmeyer’s award-winning\, fairytale-esque play about the journey of three sisters who take different paths\, have incredible adventures\, and end up back where they started\, transformed into independent women. This highly original tale explores complex themes of love\, loss and self-discovery. \nUsing an innovative DIY design aesthetic\, plus shadow puppets and an original soundscape and songs\, Hope Academy’s Teen Theater Company (HAT Co) brings this poetic\, humorous and action-packed story to life for young people and adults\, ages 8 and up. (The age restriction is due to the intimate theater setting as well as the content: death of a mother and children being abandoned by their parents). \n[vimeo id=”128407852″]\nThere will be six performances on Saturday\, May 23 and Sunday\, May 24 at 1 pm\, 4 pm and 7 pm. \nTickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and youth.

SUMMARY:Pentecost Sunday Sanctuary Worship
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the birth of the church universal through our Pentecost Sunday festivities. Remember to wear red to church. The Brass Roots will join us and Pastor Randy will offer another story-sermon installment in his News from Pittsburgh series. SUMMARY:"This Girl Laughs\, This Girl Cries\, This Girl Does Nothing" Performance #3
