SUMMARY:Meet the Music Teaching Artists Open House
DESCRIPTION:Meet the music teachers at Hope Academy of Music and the Arts to find out more about private voice and instrument lessons for your child. You may also register and schedule your lessons. \nChildren love music and movement; it’s natural – almost instinctual – for them to sing\, clap\, make rhythms\, and move. But how early should they get started in more formal classes and lessons? What instrument should they play? How do you know if they are ready? How long of a lesson should they take and often should they practice? To help answer these questions\, teaching artists from Hope Academy of Music and the Arts will be available to meet your child and let them listen to and touch various instruments. Suzuki Violin teachers will be available to talk about this approach and to measure new students for violins. \nThe following teachers are confirmed for the Open House: \nLiza Barley – Suzuki Violin\, Violin\, Viola\, Cello\, Suzuki Piano\nLaura Reynolds Carmichael – Piano\nSarah Greenwald – Violin\, Viola\nLee Kikuchi – Piano\, Violin\, Cello\, Voice\nEmily Swora – Voice\, Music Discovery

DESCRIPTION:The Neighbors\, Justice\, and Peace Committees of the Mission Board are teaming up to sponsor our fourth annual Summer Film Festival. Films will be shown after our Courtyard Worship service\, along with a light\, potluck lunch. \nThe Peace Committee will show this film about Palestinian Christians. SUMMARY:Film Festival: Spent: Looking for Change
DESCRIPTION:The Neighbors\, Justice\, and Peace Committees of the Mission Board are teaming up to sponsor our fourth annual Summer Film Festival. Films will be shown after our Courtyard Worship service\, along with a light\, potluck lunch. \nPresented by the Neighbors Committee\, this film is about everyday Americans without the financial options most of us take for granted and the movement giving them renewed hope. Turning to pawn shops\, check-cashing services\, and payday loans to meet basic financial needs can be costly for many of us\, with $89 billion a year going to fees and interest for using these types of alternative financial services. It’s time for change. New technology\, new ideas\, and encouraging dialogue around this issue can help make managing money simple and more affordable. \nClick here for more information. \nRun time: 40 minutes \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Neighbors Committee will sponsor the Fellowship Time to lift up its ministry teams and provide an opportunity to participate in the 2015 Bread for the World Offering of Letters. This year’s Offering of Letters to Congress focuses on the need for the re-authorization of the Childhood Nutrition Act. This act provides the funding for vital feeding programs (school breakfast and lunch programs\, summer feeding programs\, and WIC) for children who face hunger on a daily basis. Without the re-authorization\, these programs will end on September 30\, 2015. \nPlease take a few minutes of your time to stop by the McKelvy Room after the 10 am worship service on June 7 and write a brief letter to Congress asking them to reauthorize this program. Additional information and materials will be provided. Then browse the ministry team tables to learn more about the important work of the Neighbor’s Mission Committee.

SUMMARY:Sanctuary Worship
DESCRIPTION:This special service is written and led by our ELPC youth\, and graduating seniors will share their stories of faith. \nThis service is held in the sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. We extend a warm welcome our Latino friends and include several prayers in our service bulletin in English and Spanish. This is ELPC’s largest service\, offering a traditional worship service with thought-provoking sermons\, and the music of our Chancel Choir and organ to reinforce the spirit of praise and reverence. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. Children are invited to the chancel steps to hear their own message with one of the pastors. The service is led by ELPC’s senior pastor or other members of the pastoral staff. Special guest pastors or speakers periodically lead the service. \nSEE DETAILS FOR THIS WEEK’S WORSHIP services HERE.
