DESCRIPTION:“The ladder leading to the Kingdom is concealed within you\, that is\, in your soul”—Saint Isaac of Syria. \nMeditation is the practice of “looking deeply.” In silence and withdrawal from the world of everyday concerns\, we turn our attention inward and calm our bodies and minds. In this emptiness\, we may see the world as if for the first time. We may see others as they are and we may find that the Kingdom of Heaven is truly within us; that we are living in God and God in us. \nThe Spiritual Life Committee invites you to join John Benedict in the Chapel on Tuesdays\, 6–7 pm\, for an hour devoted to meditation. The session will include an opening reading\, silent sitting\, and walking. No experience necessary\, all are welcome. \nJohn Benedict is a retired psychologist and a longtime student and practitioner of Insight Meditation.

The winding path into the center and back out again is a metaphor for the journeys of life and faith. Unlike a maze\, which has many paths and is a puzzle to solve\, the labyrinth is a single path in and a single path out\, and is designed to quiet the mind for prayer and meditation. Originally a refuge during the war\, Taizé has developed into an ecumenical prayer center for visitors from all over the world. Today\, the Taizé community is made up of over a hundred resident brothers\, both Catholics and from various Protestant backgrounds/traditions. Taizé wants to be a sign of reconciliation between divided Christians and between separated peoples.

The festival will be held Thursday–Sunday\, August 7–10\, at various venues around Pittsburgh. \nAll proceeds will go to the Collaborative for Immigrant Impact to help immigrants access legal services\, housing\, healthcare\, education\, English classes\, career development\, food assistance\, and more\, ensuring our immigrant neighbors have the opportunity to thrive. The Collaborative for Immigrant Impact is a network of 20\, Pittsburgh-based organizations that serve as a critical safety net for more than 20\,000 immigrants in our community. \nThe festival concludes on Sunday\, August 10\, 3 pm\, with An Afternoon of Storytelling and Multicultural Music and Dance in the ELPC Sanctuary. This free event will feature multi-cultural performances of music and dance from Afghanistan\, Ukraine\, Mexico\, Brazil and Bhutan; storytelling of the immigrant experience in Pittsburgh; speakers from the Collaborative for Immigrant Impact\, a colorful array of community richness; and\, an address and special proclamation by Mayor Ed Gainey. SUMMARY:ELPC Fire Safety Training and Drill
DESCRIPTION:ELPC’s Safety & Security Advisory Committee (SSA) will be presenting a series of trainings over the next several months concerning important issues to create a safer church for us all. \nFollowing worship on Sunday\, August 17\, all are invited to stay for a fire safety training and drill presented by our very own Isaiah Wilson\, who is a fire safety professional. The congregation will be invited to stay in the Sanctuary after worship ends for this session. \nOver the next few months\, we will have trainings on first aid\, Stop the Bleed\, AED\, CPR\, and intruder threat. All these trainings will be attended by staff members and open to church leaders. Some\, such as the fire safety/fire drill and intruder threat\, will include sessions intended for all congregation members to attend. \nWe believe that part of being radically hospitable is keeping all who enter our building as safe as possible. We invite you to pray for us in our work and to keep an eye out for training sessions in coming months in which you can participate. \nThe SSA Committee is Sandy Brake\, Don Breitbarth\, Lynne Chadwick\, Carol Chonoska (Chair)\, Carol Chontos\, Rev.
