DESCRIPTION:Hope Academy families are invited to a chamber music concert featuring SYMBARITE5. Tickets have been generously donated to us by our partner\, Chamber Music Pittsburgh. This performance is recommended for students whose attention span and behavior is equivalent to an 8 year old. \nPlease read about the performance\, so that you know what to expect; and the etiquette guidelines\, so that you understand the expectations; then RSVP here by Friday\, February 8 at 12 noon. \nTo RSVP\, click HERE \nSYMBARITE5\nSami Merdinian\, violin\nSarah Whitney\, violin\nAngela Pickett\, viola\nLaura Metcalf\, cello\nLouis Levitt\, bass \nPROGRAM\nThe program\, titled Outliers\, is a celebration of works written by Sybarite5’s favorite composers mixed with music from the friends they’ve made while traveling the world performing the music they love. Sybarite5 plays the music of artists such as Andy Akiho\, Shawn Conley\, Jessica Meyer\, Dan Visconti\, Piazzolla\, Elgar\, and Radiohead. \nIN A PROGRAM OF SERIAL HIGH POINTS\, THERE WERE TOO MANY TO MENTION…\n— THE WASHINGTON POST \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nDubbed the “Millennial Kronos\,” SYBARITE5’s eclectic repertoire from Bowie to Radiohead and Akiho to Assad combined with its commanding performance style is turning heads throughout the music world. The quintet’s debut album\, Disturb the Silence\, quickly reached the top ten on the Billboard charts. The group’s follow-up album\, Everything in its Right Place\, was released at Carnegie Hall to critical acclaim. SYBARITE5 recently completed its latest album\, Outliers\, featuring all new works from American composers.SYBARITE5 is deeply committed to education and outreach as well as performance. In addition to presenting masterclasses and workshops for over 60\,000 students ages 5-25\, they have worked closely with the composition departments of colleges and universities such as Luther College\, Penn State\, Samford University\, New College and others to give students firsthand experience writing for string quintet in a popular program called So You Think You Can Compose. SYBARITE5 brings its latest composer-driven social media project to life by launching a collaboration with Juilliard and composer Ray Lustig dubbed Composagrams. \n  \n  \nHOW TO BE A GOOD AUDIENCE MEMBER\nIt is important that audience members remain quiet during the performance. Since music is mostly a listening activity\, any extra sounds that are not part of the music can get in the way and will distract and disturb the musicians and other audience members. \nBefore the Concert\nWear something you might wear to a special event – because it is!. Please don’t wear anything that might be distracting (light up shoes\, clanging jewelry\, etc)\nArrive no later than 7:00 pm to get your tickets. \nBefore You Take Your Seat\nTake care of all rest room needs.\nLeave all food\, drink\, and gum outside\, in the lobby.\nLeave all cameras and recording devices outside\, as well. There are strict copyright guidelines about recording concerts.\nTurn off all cell phones\, pagers\, ipads\, watch sounds\, alarms\, or anything that might make a noise. The only sounds that should be heard are the ones that appear in the musical score (and the audience reaction after the music). \nOnce You Take Your Seat\nA parent or guardian must sit next to each child.\nRemain seated and quiet while the musicians are playing. Do not get up during the concert or change seats.\nNo talking\, whispering\, sighing\, tapping or kicking feet\, or rattling of programs or papers.\nBe sure to sit without fidgeting so you don’t distract your neighbors or the performers on stage. \nFeel free to leave during intermission\, if this is a late night for your children; and if they fall asleep during the concert\, that’s okay too. This should be an enjoyable experience for them\, and you!
