This Sunday, join Contemporaries, Journey with Scripture, Parenting Circle, Seekers,and Soul Food classes for a joint adult Christian Education class led by The Rev. Dr. Margaret Aymer. Dr. Aymer is the associate professor of New Testament Studies at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Ga., and is an ordained minister in the PC (U.S.A.). Class meets in the Chapel.

Special guest minister for 11:00 worship service on Feb 19

This Sunday, The Rev. Dr. Margaret Aymerwe welcome The Rev. Dr. Margaret Aymer as our guest preacher at the 11:00 sanctuary worship service. Dr. Aymer is the associate professor of New Testament Studies at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Ga., and is an ordained minister in the PC (U.S.A.). She is also the author of First Pure, Then Peaceable: Frederick Douglass, Darkness and the Epistle of James;  Repairers of the Breach: Five Bible Studies on Social Justice Issues in New Orleans in the Wake of Hurricane KatrinaConfessing the Beatitudes, the 2011 Horizons Bible Study on the Beatitudes. Aymer is also working on a new book called Sojourners' Truths: the New Testament as Migrant Writings.

Annual Congregational Meeting, February 19  Annual Congregational Meeting, February 19

ELPC members, please mark your calendars and plan to attend our annual church congregational meeting after the 11:00 service on Sunday, February 19. A simple lunch will be provided, followed by an opportunity to review our ministry areas and committee work from the past year. In addition, the gathered body will be presented with a slate of candidates for Elder, Deacon, Centennial Fund, and Nominating Committee, which they also will be asked to consider and vote upon.

Architectural StudyArchitectural Focus Group Meetings, Wednesday

The Property Committee and ELPC Session have authorized an Architectural Study from the firm of Desmone & Associates which will focus on the first floor of our church. Getting feedback from the congregation is an important part of this process. See the the announcement sheet for meeting times. Please fill out a pre-discussion questionnaire, available in the front office, before your meeting or if you are unable to meet.

iServe pre-Lent service opportunity

iServeAdministrative Support for Christian Education: Do you have time available in the next week or so to help fold and prepare materials for Lent? This important one-time, set-your-own-hours task needs to be done to prepare the materials to help enrich many congregation members’ Lenten experience.

  • Ministry: The Christian Education Committee welcomes your assistance to prepare the Lenten devotional materials.
  • Commitment: Any time you can spare on Thursday, February 16, Friday, February 17 and/or Tuesday, February 21 between the hours of 8am and 2pm.
  • Skills needed: Ability to follow written directions and to work independently (unless you bring a friend with you). Tasks include folding, stapling and stacking papers in the main ELPC office.

Have a Heart for Hunger, EECMEECM “Have a Heart for Hunger” Campaign begins today

Join in the fight against hunger by participating in ELPC’s efforts to support EECM’s Have a Heart for Hunger campaign. Two ways of helping are by making a financial contribution or by collecting food. Monetary donations made between Feb 14 and March 31 will have a matching donation made up to $30,000. Fill a bag with a selection of the following items always needed by the EECM Food Pantry and bring it to ELPC on March 25: hamburger helper, instant mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, stuffing mix, rice-a-roni, diapers in all sizes or household cleaning products. The EECM Food Pantry provides food for individuals and families facing hunger in Pittsburgh. February’s “Food of the Month” is Tuna.

East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) Men’s Shelter
During the month of February, the Deacons continue to collect men’s hats, gloves, scarves, and underwear (sizes L, XL, and XXL) for EECM’s Men’s Shelter. Donations may be left in the hallway baskets. Thank you for your support!
