SUMMARY:Singer/Songwriter Contest Deadline
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve got a song to sing\, but no band to back you up\, this is your chance to develop your material and perform live with a great group of young musicians from HAT Co. Selected artist will also receive individual vocal coaching and a professional recording of their song at Yellow Couch Studio. Open to young artists from 13 to 22 years old. Winner will rehearse with the band on Saturday mornings and perform in at least one event in May or June. \nSam Herring\, lead singer and songwriter from the synth-pop band\, Future Islands\, will be judging the entries and picking a winner. \nSubmit this online Singer/Songwriter Contest Application by April 20\, 2016. SUMMARY:Bridge Ballet and Bridge Chorus Auditions
DESCRIPTION:Auditions/placements for Hope Academy’s Bridge Ballet (in partnership with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre) and Bridge Chorus (in partnership with Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts) will take place on Saturday\, April 2. Latecomers will not be admitted. \nBridge courses are for more committed and focused students who want to work with other young dancers and singers who share their level of discipline and enthusiasm. Punctuality\, attendance\, behavior and dress (proper dance clothing*) will be held to a higher standard and the expectation is that students will attend every class\, be on time and prepared\, and dressed appropriately. The dress code does not apply to the audition – please come in whatever dance clothing you currently have. \nBridge Ballet Audition (5 to 8 year olds)\n9 am in the Gym on the basement level \nBridge Chorus Audition (7 to 9 year olds)\n10 am in the 3rd floor Music Room \nPlease note: students who are slightly outside of the recommended age ranges may audition. Teaching artists will also invite current students who show potential and promise \nPlease RSVP for the either or both auditions HERE\nBridge courses run from April 9 – May 7 (5 sessions)\nBridge Ballet – Saturdays from 9:15 to 10:15 am for 5 to 8 year olds\nBridge Chorus – Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am for 7 to 9 year olds \nTuition for each course is $40 + \n$10 registration fee. Students who currently receive scholarships/financial assistance will automatically receive the same level for the spring term Bridge courses. \nPlease make sure you are prepared to register and pay after the audition\, if your child is selected. \n* Proper dance clothing\, required for Bridge Ballet\, includes:\nGIRLS – pink footed tights\, black leotard (no skirt attached)\, pink leather ballet shoes.\nBOYS – black tights\, pants or shorts (not baggy). Black or white leather ballet shoes. Plain white socks and t-shirt. \nPlease note: students can wear whatever dance clothing they currently have for the audition. SUMMARY:Hope Academy Recitals at Phipps Conservatory
DESCRIPTION:Hope Academy’s music students will perform recital pieces at the Phipps during their winter flower show. Performers will receive complimentary tickets to the Phipps; parents\, guardians and guests will need to purchase tickets. \nAdmission is $15 for adults\, $14 for seniors and students\, and $11 for children (ages 2 – 18). Members and kids under 2 enter free. A visit to the Phipps is always a lovely family-outing for the holidays\, so please plan to join us there. \nBringing the familiar carol “Deck the Halls” to life\, each of the changing exhibit rooms will embody the spirit of the holiday tune\, complete with artful arrangements of LED lights\, decorated fir trees\, whimsical props\, and\, of course\, plenty of seasonal favorites such as colorful poinsettias\, aromatic paperwhites and showy amaryllis. \nAdding to the festive atmosphere\, in our Outdoor and Discovery Gardens\, the Winter Light Garden will sparkle with luminous orbs\, trees and fountains of light. Garden Railroad will be on view too\, taking you on a magical trip through the plots of nine fairy tales and fables brought to life with interactive buttons for children to push\, and miniature living plants\, shrubs and trees.

DESCRIPTION:Meet the music teachers at Hope Academy of Music and the Arts to find out more about private voice and instrument lessons for your child. You may also register and schedule your lessons. \nChildren love music and movement; it’s natural – almost instinctual – for them to sing\, clap\, make rhythms\, and move. DESCRIPTION:Students who would like to be considered for acceptance into the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) Bridge Ballet 1 class at Hope Academy should attend this placement audition. Students who were selected to participate in the Bridge Ballet 1 class during the Spring 2015 term do not need to attend this audition (they are invited to register for the class). \nFor all other PBT classes at Hope Academy\, students should register for the level that corresponds to their age as of Sept 1. If you feel that your child should be in a different class for some reason\, please attend this placement session.PBT instructors will assess the students and may re-assigned them to  different levels\, if appropriate. \nRECYCLE\, DONATE & SWAP FOR GENTLY USED DANCE CLOTHING & SHOES – 12 noon\n \nWe will have dance clothing and shoes in a wide range of sizes available in the dance class waiting area. Please come\, with your child\, to try on shoes and find appropriate leotards and tights. We will be accepting cash donations (pay what you can) that will be used to purchase additional shoes and clothing. \nAdditionally\, if you have any dance clothes or shoes that your child has outgrown\, please bring them to contribute so that another child can put them to good use. \n

This highly original tale explores complex themes of love\, loss and self-discovery. \nUsing an innovative DIY design aesthetic\, plus shadow puppets and an original soundscape and songs\, Hope Academy’s Teen Theater Company (HAT Co) brings this poetic\, humorous and action-packed story to life for young people and adults\, ages 8 and up. DESCRIPTION:Make sure you get into the dance class of your choice by registering for the fall term\, today (classes fill quickly). If you would like to apply for a scholarship (need and merit based) you should attend this placement class. \nStudents who would like to be considered for acceptance into the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) Bridge Ballet 1 class at Hope Academy must attend this placement audition. If you participated in the Bridge Ballet 1 class during the 2014-2015  year you do not need to attend this audition (you are invited to register for the class again). \nFor all other PBT classes at Hope Academy\, students should register for the level that corresponds to their age as of Sept 1. If you feel that your child should be in a different class for some reason\, please attend this placement session. Families\, friends and students who might be interested in joining us are invited to come and watch – and maybe get in on the action. DESCRIPTION:Hope Academy’s Musical Theater Workshop students\, in the 4th through 7th grades\, are competing this week in the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Shakespeare Monologue and Scene Contest. The group will perform 14 monologues. Call time for students is 2:30 pm in the lobby of the Pittsburgh Public (O’Reilly) Theater in the Cultural District downtown. We are schedule to compete at 3 pm.
