DESCRIPTION:One-third of families have trouble paying for diapers. Parents may miss work because they cannot provide a supply of disposable diapers for their children at day care. Lack of clean diapers can adversely affect a child’s health and socialization. \nPresbyterian Women will host a drive-by Diaper Drive on Sunday\, March 14\, 1:30–3 pm\, at the half-circle driveway on Highland Ave. Disposable diapers (especially sizes 5 and 6) and baby wipes are requested. All donations will support the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank. \nIf you prefer to make a monetary donation\, make checks payable to “PW in ELPC” and write “Diaper Drive” in the memo line. DESCRIPTION:The Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) is organizing to put two binding ballot questions on the May ballot for Allegheny County and Pittsburgh. The first petition seeks to end solitary confinement in Allegheny County Jail\, and the second petition pertains to banning “no-knock” warrants (Breonna’s Law) in Pittsburgh. To be added to the May ballot\, these petitions require many thousands of signatures from Allegheny County and/or Pittsburgh residents by February 16. \nStop by the Highland Ave. driveway on February 7\, 1:30–3 pm\, to sign the petitions. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on\, not a day off\,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer in their communities. \nIn observance of MLK Day\, to fulfill the theme of “a day on\, not a day off\,” and to live into being a PC(USA) Matthew 25 Church\, ELPC is hosting a Drive-by Sock Collection on Sunday\, January 17\, 1–3:30 pm\, to serve one of the needs of our vulnerable neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. You may drop off sock donations at the Highland Avenue half-circle driveway. \nTypically\, people living in homelessness spend their days walking in their community—and we all know and appreciate that when your feet are cold\, your entire body is cold. Staff will also be distributing our new church directory at this time. All will be wearing masks. Requested food items include: crackers\, canned soup\, peanut butter\, individual fruit cups\, canned vegetables\, pasta (including instant mac & cheese)\, rice and bottled water. DESCRIPTION:The recent tragic murder of George Floyd has reminded us that the sin of racism coupled with the abuse of power by some in positions of authority still plagues our nation. People of faith\, especially those in the white community\, need to break their silence by acts of remorse\, solidarity\, and advocacy.\n\n\n \n\n\nEast Liberty Presbyterian Church (116 S. Highland Avenue\, Pgh)\, working in conjunction with the local chapter of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus\, is hosting a peaceful vigil on Wednesday\, June 3\, from 12 noon–1 pm. Those who wish to participate are invited to gather outside the church\, wearing a mask\, bringing a sign\, and maintaining safe social distancing as we will be surrounding the church as a visible witness for justice—remembering George Floyd\, Ahmaud Arbery\, Breonna Taylor\, Antwon Rose\, Jonny Gammage\, and others; remembering that Black Lives Matter; remembering that no one should be suffocated by having the breath of life or the breath of justice snuffed out by another.\n\n\n \n\n\nWe invite those interested in this act of faithful witness to join us at East Liberty Presbyterian Church this Wednesday.

Join us as we recognize this special anniversary\, celebrate ELPC’s movement towards environmental stewardship\, and acknowledge the “fierce urgency” of the climate crisis. \nThe Environmental Team of the Justice Committee also will launch the ELPC tree planting initiative.
