SUMMARY:PW Bible Study Book Pick Up
DESCRIPTION:Presbyterian Women in ELPC will begin a new Bible study series\, titled Into the Light: Finding Hope Through Prayers of Lament\, in September. Study books may be picked up at ELPC’s Highland entrance on Wednesday\, August 5\, 11 am–1 pm\, or Tuesday\, August 11\, 12–2 pm. \nAll women are invited to join us for Reclaiming Lament (introduction and virtual lunch) on Tuesday\, August 18\, 12 pm. Our first lesson\, Heart of Lament\, will begin on Monday\, September 14\, 7 pm\, or Tuesday\, September 15\, 10 am. Lessons will then continue on the first Monday and Tuesday of every month\, along with a mid-Month virtual lunch to share laments in writing\, art\, or music. \nWe hope you will join us as we begin to explore this ancient form of prayer and protest. DESCRIPTION:The recent tragic murder of George Floyd has reminded us that the sin of racism coupled with the abuse of power by some in positions of authority still plagues our nation. People of faith\, especially those in the white community\, need to break their silence by acts of remorse\, solidarity\, and advocacy.\n\n\n \n\n\nEast Liberty Presbyterian Church (116 S. Highland Avenue\, Pgh)\, working in conjunction with the local chapter of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus\, is hosting a peaceful vigil on Wednesday\, June 3\, from 12 noon–1 pm. Those who wish to participate are invited to gather outside the church\, wearing a mask\, bringing a sign\, and maintaining safe social distancing as we will be surrounding the church as a visible witness for justice—remembering George Floyd\, Ahmaud Arbery\, Breonna Taylor\, Antwon Rose\, Jonny Gammage\, and others; remembering that Black Lives Matter; remembering that no one should be suffocated by having the breath of life or the breath of justice snuffed out by another.\n\n\n \n\n\nWe invite those interested in this act of faithful witness to join us at East Liberty Presbyterian Church this Wednesday.

More than a day\, Earth Day 2020 (Wednesday\, April 22) is called to be an historic movement as citizens of the world rise up in a united way for the creativity\, innovation\, ambition\, and bravery we need to meet our climate crisis and seize the enormous opportunities of a zero-carbon future. \nELPC will commemorate Earth Day during our worship services on Sunday\, April 26. Join us as we recognize this special anniversary\, celebrate ELPC’s movement towards environmental stewardship\, and acknowledge the “fierce urgency” of the climate crisis. \nThe Environmental Team of the Justice Committee also will launch the ELPC tree planting initiative.

DESCRIPTION:There will be no Labyrinth Prayer Walk today\, Monday\, February 17. The church building is closed in observance of Presidents’ Day. \n\nThe labyrinth is an ancient\, sacred symbol found in many religious traditions throughout the world. Today\, modern pilgrims walk the labyrinth as one of many ways to pray and meditate. The winding path into the center and back out again is a metaphor for the journeys of life and faith. Unlike a maze\, which has many paths and is a puzzle to solve\, the labyrinth is a single path in and a single path out\, and is designed to quiet the mind for prayer and meditation. Members and non-members welcome. \n\nThe Labyrinth is available on Mondays\, 7 am–1 pm\, and Wednesdays\, 9 am–9 pm.
