SUMMARY:Suzuki 2019 Fall Workshop at ELPC
DESCRIPTION:A two-day intensive experience with world-renowned Suzuki clinicians and local teachers. Similar to an institute\, a workshop can be an incredibly motivating experience for Suzuki students of all ages (4 to 18) and levels. \nThis fall\, the workshop will offer masterclasses\, group classes\, Dalcroze Eurhythmics\, visual art activities\, African dance and drumming\, chamber music\, and much more! As with all Suzuki events\, parents are expected to attend with their children up to age 12 and to take advantage of the Parent Seminar. Students ages 12 to 18 can attend alone. \nHope Academy students who have Suzuki violin\, viola\, cello or guitar private lessons or group classes on Saturdays are invited to attend the Fall Workshop for FREE. \nHope Academy Suzuki students who have private lessons or group classes during the week are invited to participate at a reduced rate of $50. \nHOW TO REGISTER \nRegister online here \nSaturday Suzuki Students – skip the payment portion of the registration form. DESCRIPTION:Our fall 2019 Facing Systemic Racism series will focus on writing a racial autobiography. We invite you to join us for a three-week\, introspective writing workshop\, where we will reflect upon\, share\, and develop our individual experiences with race and create our own racial autobiography. Writing materials are provided. It is optional to bring photos. He will be on hand as a guest speaker for the Young Adult Ministry’s Just Engagement study series. \nTerrell currently serves as senior field organizer for the ACLU of Pennsylvania’s Smart Justice Campaign in Allegheny County\, and has an extensive background in organizing\, advocating and creating social change. He will share his experiences working in advocacy and organizing\, as well as his work in reducing Pennsylvania’s jail and prison population while combating racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

SUMMARY:Keep Families Together: Out of Cages & In Their Homes!
DESCRIPTION:Immigrant families face separation constantly\, this time thanks to Ben Carson and his Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A new proposal would evict mixed-status families from subsidized housing\, requiring everyone except senior citizens to prove citizenship. This would mean that if a woman living in subsidized housing has her brother who is applying for asylum temporarily staying with her\, both would face eviction unless the brother moved out. More than 100\,000 families would face eviction if this rule is put in place. \nHUD admits its mixed-status rule will NOT reduce wait lists\, but WILL reduce the quality and quantity of housing. This is clearly another attack on immigrants and poor people\, and we will let the government know why we will not stand for it. \nJoin us to take part in the federal public comment period to oppose this rule change and take a stand against family separation. Public comment periods are an incredibly effective way to influence federal policy. \nThis event is part of Just Harvest’s Power of the Pen series—monthly events to write letters to public officials to create real world change. Dinner will be provided.

Learning to Love like Jesus. \nThrough crafts\, music\, activities\, games\, worship\, reflection\, and Bible study\, children ages 4 through grade 5 will explore God’s call to love our neighbors as ourselves. \nSpots are still available\, but fill fast. \n\nRegistration Forms\nRegistration forms for campers and volunteers are\navailable on our VCS webpage. \n\nLend a Helping Hand\nYouth in grades 6–12 and adults of all ages are needed to serve as volunteers. We need folks who can serve all week and even those who can spare just three hours. A list of requested items for donation will be available soon. \n\nVolunteer Training\nThere is a mandatory training session for all volunteers following Sanctuary worship on Sunday\, June 23.
