Graduating Seniors will share their faith stories\, and receive a blessing by the congregation as they prepare for the next steps in their respective life journeys. This year\, students completing third grade will be presented with a gift of a Bible from the church\, that they might be nurtured in God’s word. \n\nThis service is held in the Sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. DESCRIPTION:Pentecost is the annual event in which we celebrate the birth of the early Christian church by remembering how the Holy Spirit inspired the first disciples. We wear red as a symbol of the fire that touched women and men that day and re-commit ourselves to sharing the good news of Christ. \nThis year\, Pentecost Sunday\, May 20\, is extra-special\, because we will confirm a group of young people and celebrate the final stage of our year-long building renovation project. The bulk of the work is finally done! While final tests and touch-ups are completed\, we will celebrate the excellent renovations and improvements through special words\, music\, and events. Mike Tomaro and his jazz combo from Duquesne University will be with us during worship\, and then there will be opportunities for you to tour the building\, hear from hosts at different locations about the improvements\, and offer your own prayers for God’s architectural blessings. \nJoin us for this great day as we celebrate our past\, rejoice in the present improvements\, and look forward to beginning our 200th year of ministry in East Liberty! \n\nThis service is held in the Sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special Sanctuary worship service as we celebrate the Gifts of Women. \nEach year\, in partnership with Presbyterian Women\, ELPC selects a Sunday close to International Women’s Day (Thursday\, March 8)\, during which we lift up the gifts of women and acknowledge the challenges that women throughout the world continue to face. \nThe Rev. Heather Schoenewolf will preach and her sermon will be titled “Pathway to Peace: Refusing to be Silenced.” In conjunction with ELPC’s Lenten sermon series on the “Voices of Peace\,” Pastor Heather will feature the peacemaking work of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. Our service will include women liturgists\, ushers\, and greeters. \n\nThis service is held in the Sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. We extend a warm welcome to our Latino friends and include several prayers in our service bulletin in English and Spanish. This is ELPC’s largest service\, offering a traditional worship service with thought-provoking sermons\, and the music of our Chancel Choir and organ to reinforce the spirit of praise and reverence. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. SUMMARY:The Pageant of Peace
DESCRIPTION:All people are invited to enjoy our annual Christmas pageant\, as the children and middle school youth of ELPC reenact the story of the birth of Jesus\, the Prince of Peace. \nMay we all be inspired by this familiar story to share the peace of Christ with others\, and be peacemakers in our world. \nThis year’s pageant will be authored by Ashley Birt. There will be a rehearsal on Sat.\, Dec. 9\, 9:30 am\, followed by a brief Christmas party for participants. All children and youth in grade 8 and under are invited to participate. Youth in grades 6–8 are asked to attend Church School on Sun.\, Dec. 3\, or let Sara Hackett know that you will be participating\, so that a speaking part can be set aside for you.

The concert is co-sponsored with the Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh. A live stream will be available on Facebook. \nThe concert is free\, but a freewill offering will be accepted. \nCaroline Robinson is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate studying with Prof. David Higgs. A Fulbright scholar\, Caroline spent the 2013-14 school year in Toulouse\, France\, where she studied at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional under Michel Bouvard and Jan Willem Jansen (organ)\, as well as Yasuko Bouvard (harpsichord). Caroline is the First Prize winner of the 11th Annual Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival (2008) and in the Tenth Annual West Chester University Organ Competition (2010). \nAmanda Mole is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate studying with Prof. David Higgs. In 2011\, she graduated from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and the School of Music with a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and Sacred Music. Amanda is the first-place and audience prize winner of the 2016 Miami International Organ Competition\, and the first-place winner of the 2014 Arthur Poister Organ Competition\, the 2014 John Rodland Memorial Organ Competition\, and the 2014 Peter B. Knock Award. \nA native of Croatia\, Ivan Bosnar studies organ performance with Prof. Nathan Laube and improvisation with Prof. Edoardo Bellotti. The concert will open with the iconic sounds of Richard Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra (featured in 2001: A Space Odyssey). Also featured will be arrangements of music from Star Trek\, Star Wars\, and Superman by Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra trombonist James Nova. SUMMARY:Chancel Choir Rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7–8:30 pm\, in the Sanctuary from September through early June. Sunday morning rehearsals are at 10:00 am\, in preparation for the worship service. The choir provides musical leadership at our Sanctuary worship service on Sundays at 11 am. \nNo audition is required\, just the desire to learn and have fun as we prepare to lead worship.
