DESCRIPTION:Our annual Christmas Pageant will be held at 10 am\, on Sun. Dec. 13\, in the Sanctuary. This year’s pageant is titled The Traveler’s Guide to Christmas and was written by ELPC member Ashley Birt. ELPC’s children and youth will lead us on a journey through the story of Jesus’ birth. \nJoin us as we sing the carols of the season\, and hear and see the good news proclaimed that “unto us a baby was born in Bethlehem\, a Savior who is Christ the Lord!” \nNote: There will be no Church School classes this day. \nFind information about how your child can participate in the pageant here.

SUMMARY:Children's Sabbath Sanctuary Worship
DESCRIPTION:This week\, ELPC will take part in the annual observance of Children’s Sabbath\, co-sponsored by the Justice and Christian Education Committees. This year’s theme is How Long Must I Cry for Help? Bending the Arc Toward God’s Vision of Justice for Children. Sister Linda Yankoski\, president and CEO of Holy Family Institute (HFI)\, will deliver the message at the Journey and Sanctuary services. In addition\, The Brass Roots will provide special music. \nHFI was founded more than 100 years ago by the Sisters of Nazareth. Their mission is to empower children and families to lead responsible lives and develop healthy and meaningful relationships built on faith\, hope\, and love. Most recently\, HFI provided the Journey of Hope Initiative\, offering housing and services to unaccompanied children under 12\, who entered the United States through the southwestern border. \nThis service is held in the sanctuary on the first floor\, with an organ prelude before the service. SUMMARY:Choral and Organ Music of Maurice Duruflé with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh
DESCRIPTION:Co-presented by the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and ELPC’s Cathedral Concerts. \nBetsy Burleigh\, conductor\nEdward Alan Moore\, organ \n\nThe Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh‘s 2015-2016 season opens with a performance of Maurice Duruflé‘s soulful Requiem\, conducted by Music Director Betsy Burleigh.  Duruflé completed the Requiem in 1947\, and dedicated the piece to the memory of his father.  He incorporated themes from Gregorian chant into the Requiem\, with an emphasis on the Gregorian “Mass for the Dead.”  This concert marks Betsy Burleigh’s final performance as Music Director of the Mendelssohn Choir. \nAlso featured on the concert will be one of Duruflé’s greatest works for solo organ\, the Prelude\, Adagio\, and Choral Variations on “Veni Creator Spiritus”. \nThis event is free for all members of the ELPC Community. Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe\, the compelling power and beauty of our historic\, gothic-style Sanctuary enhances the spiritual experience. Children are invited to the chancel steps to hear their own message with one of the pastors. The service is led by ELPC’s senior pastor or other members of the pastoral staff. DESCRIPTION:The Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will hold its opening service of the 2015-2016 season in the sanctuary at ELPC on Monday\, September 28\, at 8:00 PM.  The service will feature the ELPC Chancel Choir and the Rev. Dr. Randy Bush will deliver the sermon. The service will conclude with the installation of officers\, where ELPC’s own Dr. Ed Moore will be installed as Dean of the Pittsburgh Chapter.  All are welcome to this festive service!
