SUMMARY:Labyrinth Prayer Walk
DESCRIPTION:The labyrinth is an ancient\, sacred symbol found in many religious traditions throughout the world. Today\, modern pilgrims walk the labyrinth as one of many ways to pray and meditate. The winding path into the center and back out again is a metaphor for the journeys of life and faith. Unlike a maze\, which has many paths and is a puzzle to solve\, the labyrinth is a single path in and a single path out\, and is designed to quiet the mind for prayer and meditation. Members and non-members welcome. \n\nThe Labyrinth is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays\, 10 am–7 pm\, in the McKelvy Room.

SUMMARY:PW's Offering of Letters
DESCRIPTION:Presbyterian Women is hosting an Offering of Letters in support of the Global Food Security Reauthorization Act of 2022 following Sanctuary worship on World Communion Sunday\, October 2\, in the McKelvy Room. \nFirst introduced in 2008\, the Act provides the U.S. government with a comprehensive strategy to fight hunger and malnutrition\, promote nutrition among pregnant women and young children\, build stronger agricultural infrastructures\, and prioritize women smallholder farmers. \nThe Act has been at work through a program called Feed the Future. Working with local partners in some of the world’s poorest countries\, Feed the Future has helped: \n\nPrevent 3.4 million children from stunting and malnutrition\,\nBrought 5.2 million families out of hunger\, and\nLifted 23.4 million people out of poverty globally.\n\nOur Offering of Letters will urge our senators and representatives to support the Global Food Security Reauthorization Act to fund Feed the Future through 2028. \nPresbyterian Women will be available after worship to provide assistance.

SUMMARY:Decolonizing our Spiritual Practices
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, June 4\, 9 am–3pm\, at ELPC or on Zoom for a day of teaching\, conversation\, and spiritual practice\, as we seek to continue in our journey to be a Matthew 25 church and decolonize our spiritual practices. \nWe will be led by Leeann Shaw Younger. Under her leadership\, we will look at the world and the story of Jesus through the eyes of those impacted by the work of colonial missionaries here in the U.S. and around the world. We will deepen our relationship with the Divine by considering how we might begin to unlearn the spiritual practices we’ve inherited that ignore and even denigrate the way indigenous cultures see the world and the Divine. We will consider what we can learn about the story of Jesus through the eyes of those finding a story of liberation and healing for both our human and other-than-human relatives. \nRSVP to Norma Meyer at 412.441.3800 x111 by Sunday\, May 29. The suggested donation is $10 (lunch included). \nJoin us at ELPC in the McKelvy Room or online by clicking the button below. Enter meeting ID 835 6152 8224 and passcode 579308 if prompted. \nJoin Via Zoom \n\nAbout Our Facilitator\nLeeann Shaw Younger is the lead pastor of Cityview Church in Pittsburgh’s East Deutschtown/Spring Garden neighborhood. She co-founded the Evangelical Covenant Church congregation in 2010 with her husband\, Wayne. Leeann has a breadth of vocational experiences in her background as a nonprofit executive leader\, campus minster\, and pastor\, but most recently has enjoyed her role as a Democratic committeewoman. She is in the process of completing a Master of Theological Studies\, with a focus on decolonizing church practice from the Pacific School of Religion.

SUMMARY:Canceled: Lenten Book Study: White Awake
DESCRIPTION:  \nLent is a holy time for lament\, repentance\, and change. Many approach Lent with a commitment to “give up” a special treat\, behavior\, or habit. As part of our focus on Facing Systemic Racism\, the Mission Board encourages ELPC members and friends to embrace all aspects of Lent by engaging in an intentional read and weekly discussion of Daniel Hill’s book\, White Awake: An Honest Look at What It Means to be White. \nIn the book\, Pastor Hill reflects on a personal journey toward greater recognition of white privilege and white culture\, as well as how to effectively seek reconciliation among racial groups. This faith-based resource helps white people come to grips with the reality of privilege and institutional racism within ourselves\, our country\, and our churches. \nJoin us in the McKelvy Room. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and a light lunch will be served. Our discussion schedule is as follows: \n\nMarch 8 | Forward and Chapters 1–3 (45 pages)\nMarch 15 | Chapters 4–6 (53 pages)\nMarch 22 | Chapters 7–8 (44 pages)\nMarch 29 | Chapters 9–10 (44 pages)\n\nChildcare is available with reservation one week prior. SUMMARY:Neighbors Committee Fellowship Time
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Neighbors Committee following our Sanctuary worship service\, as we recognize and honor Fran Wilson for her envisioning\, opening\, and running The Chapel Market since its inception. Fran has worked tirelessly to outfit\, organize\, and manage The Chapel Market\, as well as its volunteers. She is stepping back to pursue other interests\, but we are thankful for her faithful service. \nWe also invite you to learn about the Committee’s work and how you can become involved by providing meals\, working on housing rehab projects\, and participating in other community development activities. There also will be opportunities to write letters to Congress\, focusing on providing adequate funding for childhood nutrition programs in 2017 and protecting health care for all. Information and materials about each issue will be available at the letter writing tables.

SUMMARY:Bread for the World Offering of Letters
DESCRIPTION:The Neighbors Committee will sponsor the Fellowship Time to lift up its ministry teams and provide an opportunity to participate in the 2015 Bread for the World Offering of Letters. This year’s Offering of Letters to Congress focuses on the need for the re-authorization of the Childhood Nutrition Act. This act provides the funding for vital feeding programs (school breakfast and lunch programs\, summer feeding programs\, and WIC) for children who face hunger on a daily basis. Without the re-authorization\, these programs will end on September 30\, 2015. \nPlease take a few minutes of your time to stop by the McKelvy Room after the 10 am worship service on June 7 and write a brief letter to Congress asking them to reauthorize this program. Additional information and materials will be provided. Then browse the ministry team tables to learn more about the important work of the Neighbor’s Mission Committee.
