Vigil for Justice
June 3, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
The recent tragic murder of George Floyd has reminded us that the sin of racism coupled with the abuse of power by some in positions of authority still plagues our nation. People of faith, especially those in the white community, need to break their silence by acts of remorse, solidarity, and advocacy.
East Liberty Presbyterian Church (116 S. Highland Avenue, Pgh), working in conjunction with the local chapter of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus, is hosting a peaceful vigil on Wednesday, June 3, from 12 noon–1 pm. Those who wish to participate are invited to gather outside the church, wearing a mask, bringing a sign, and maintaining safe social distancing as we will be surrounding the church as a visible witness for justice—remembering George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Antwon Rose, Jonny Gammage, and others; remembering that Black Lives Matter; remembering that no one should be suffocated by having the breath of life or the breath of justice snuffed out by another.
We invite those interested in this act of faithful witness to join us at East Liberty Presbyterian Church this Wednesday.
