The Neighbors, Justice, and Peace Committees of the Mission Board are teaming up to sponsor our fifth annual Summer Film Series. Four times a year, ELPC provides dinner for families involved with the Open Hand Ministries' Circles program. These families are working hard on improving their financial situation and reaching their goals. Consider helping them along the way by donating food and/or serving dinner. The ELPC Mission Board needs your help in supporting one of our local partners on one or both days. Open Door Housing—which provides affordable, safe, and supportive housing for individuals living with HIV—is rehabbing its 15-unit apartment complex on Pittsburgh’s North Side and has doors that need to be painted. Church Life Sampler

Our annual Church Life Sampler will be held after our Sanctuary worship service. Come “sample” the various worship and service opportunities that ELPC offers. Meet leaders, ask questions, and jump on board! Lunch will be provided and a special activity will be available for children. This also is Visitor’s Sunday, so bring along friends and neighbors to visit ELPC and consider making our church part of their faith journey. Supporting Returning Citizens

Our worship services on Sun., Oct. 8, will have a special focus on returning citizens—those individuals who are returning to society following incarceration. The Justice Committee also will provide a program on welcoming and supporting these individuals at ELPC, featuring a post-release leader from Foundation of HOPE, a returning citizen mentor from ELPC, and a young man recently released from Allegheny County Jail seeking a faith community as a key part of his re-entry. A light lunch will be served.

The Justice Committee is sponsoring a film called Saturday Church, which will be shown at Harris Theater. After the unexpected death of his father, Ulysses, a shy, gender-nonconforming teen, faces a sudden onslaught of painful realities at home. In this coming-of-age drama, Ulysses flees to New York City and finds an inclusive gathering of trans and queer youths who shepherd him into the sanctuary that is Saturday Church. Neighborhood Mission Opportunity

All are invited to join us on Sat., Nov. 4, as Open hand Ministries works to rehab two homes—one in East Liberty and another in Garfield—into quality, affordable homes for local families. Volunteers also are welcome on the first Saturday of every month. No special skills are needed and all ages are welcome. A typical a workday runs from 9 am–3 pm. ELPC is again teaming up with Ten Thousand Villages to raise money for the ELPC Thanksgiving Food Ministry. Ten Thousand Villages is an independent nonprofit organization that supports artisans from around the globe by establishing a sustainable market for their products in North America.
