Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, at 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Disruption. Sharron Boddy, our intern from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, will preach Exodus 17:1–7.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Patrice will preach from Luke 24:13–35 and her sermon will be titled “An Ironic Turn of Events.”
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, at 7 pm
Led by the Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan, our hour-long Taizé service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. Stay afterward for Contemplative Prayer. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | Second Floor Parlor
Reformed Faith and Politics
The Reformed Protestant tradition from John Calvin to the present follows certain broad trajectories for politics, which are refined for each age and situation. The PC(USA) has a major statement on the role of Presbyterianism in American politics: “Reformed Faith and Politics” (1980) and a resolution on voter rights, “Lift Every Voice” (2008). Ron Stone, who participated in both projects, will lead the class on these actions.
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered”—Psalm 130:3–4. Perhaps the above verses interpret the movement from Lent to Easter. Join us this month as we ponder journey, cross, tomb, garden, and locked room.
This week, our readings are Acts 2:14a, 36–41; Psalm 116:1–4, 12–19; I Peter 1:17-23; and Luke 24:13-35.
Seekers | Room 234
Allegheny County Immigrant Integration Plan
Implementation of a countywide immigrant integration plan is being led by Betty Cruz, who founded Change Agency in September 2016 to further such civic initiatives. Previously, Betty was deputy chief of special initiatives for Mayor William Peduto. Originally from Miami, Betty is the daughter of Cuban immigrants. She will talk about the efforts she is leading in Allegheny County, and how this work is impacted by today’s political climate.
Soul Food | Third Floor Music Room
The Rev. Joe Hajdu, Pam Napier-Barnes, and David Carl will lead us as we conclude our discussion of Week 6 of Open the Door, by Joyce Rupp.
