Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Speak the Truth. Pastor Randy will preach from Mark 1:9–15.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. This week, our service will highlight Thomas Merton, as we continue exploring our Lenten theme, “Voices of Peace.” Pastor Randy will preach from 1 Peter 3:8–15, and his sermon will be titled “Do Not Fear What They Fear.”
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, 7 pm
Led by the Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan, our hour-long Taizé service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | Harambe Room
The Christian Imagination: Theology and the Origins of Race
Jan Irvin will introduce Willie James Jennings’ book, The Christian Imagination: Theology and the Origins of Race. One reviewer writes, “There is no study that I know of that traces with such detail, consistency, insight, historical depth, and geographic spread the links between racism, capitalism, and Christian theology.”
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“The right to rule belongs to the Lord. He rules all nations.”—Psalm 22:28.
In the Lenten gospel readings, Jesus sets his face towards an encounter with the unjust rulers of his nation and their disdain for the least. Neither complicit nor complacent with the status quo, he proclaims God’s dominion by word and deed. Jesus claims God’s right to rule. May we—by the Spirit—be granted such assurance and action.
Join us for this week’s readings: Genesis 9:8–17; Psalm 25:1–10; 1 Peter 3:18–22; and Mark 1:9–15.
Seekers | Good Samaritan Room
Christianity and the Black Experience in American
Pastor Patrice will share her experiences in the Black Baptist tradition, discussing their origin and history, as well as how they live out their faith. She also will discuss the origin and history of the AME church and how their faith is practiced today.
Soul Food | Third Floor Music Room
The Book of Joy by Douglas Abrams
We will discuss The Book of Joy, with the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, led by the Rev. Joe Hajdu, Linda Harrington, Pam Napier-Barnes, and Katlyn Dougherty.
