Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, at 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Back on Track. Pastor Patrice will preach from Matthew 17: 1–9.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Randy will preach from Exodus 33:12–23 and his sermon will be titled “Glorious Freedom.”
Ash Wednesday Service| Wednesday, at 12 pm
Amidst the gray and darkness of winter, we pause to reflect upon our lives as children of God. This can involve both lighting a candle of hope and offering up prayers of repentance. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the special season of Lent—an important time for thoughtfulness and personal reflection.
To mark this sacred time, Pastor Patrice will lead a special service featuring the imposition of ashes in the Chapel. Following this service, a simple lunch of soup and bread will be served in Room 234, and we will welcome Dr. David Esterline, president of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, as our guest speaker. All are welcome!
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, at 7 pm
Our hour-long service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. The Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan will lead this service of sung Taizé prayer. Stay afterward for Contemplative Prayer. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | Second Floor Parlor
Seeing Jesus in John’s Gospel: Giver of Living Water
We will continue our series with the story of the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:5–42). She is an example of one who receives Jesus’ gift of living water.
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
The apostle Paul writes, “But we have the mind of Christ” to the church in Corinth—a cosmopolitan, religiously pluralistic, socially competitive, market driven city. Hearts, minds, and bodies were likely pulled and shaped in many ways. Paul proclaims a different shaping and existence. This month’s scripture calls readers to new life. Come and be reshaped as we reflect on:
This week, our readings are Exodus 24:12–18; Psalm 2; 2 Peter 1:16–21; and Matthew 17:1–9.
Seekers | Room 234
Malcolm X—The Struggle of Character Transformation
We will explore how one of America’s most influential figures responded to ignorance and racism with knowledge, bravery, and humility. Join us to hear the story of Malcolm X by Hamza Perez, youth director of the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh and co-founder of the Light of the Age Mosque.
Soul Food | Third Floor Music Room
The Rev. Joe Hajdu, Judy Roberts, and Yamuna Morgenstern will lead us as we conclude our discussion of Week 2, “Knocking on the Door,” from Open the Door, by Joyce Rupp.
