An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Transformation. Pastor Randy will preach from Luke 3:15–18, 21–22.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Randy will preach from Luke 3:15–18, 21–22, as we celebrate Baptism of the Lord Sunday. His sermon will be titled “Waters of Trust.”
If you’re out of town and/or unable to join us for worship, follow us on Facebook to receive a notification when we go live so that you can watch this week’s sermon.
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, 7 pm
Led by the Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan, our hour-long Taizé service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | McKelvy Room
Faith and Church Finances
Our church has a great mission to serve our community, locally and around the world. Who makes the decisions about what funds are available? Where does the money come from? What should we know, as faithful church members, about church finances? How can we make this a subject that reflects who we are as active members of our church family? Class will be led by Gene and Marva Harris.
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news…”—Luke 4:18
Jesus’ public ministry begins with teaching in synagogues, places of faithfulness and memory. The synagogue of his youth is the place where his ministry first becomes interpreted. Through self-acceptance and self-disclosure Jesus “reads” the scripture from the scroll of Isaiah, words made flesh. Scripture reads Jesus and it also reads us. Join our class this Epiphany season and emerging New Year.
Join us for this week’s readings: Isaiah 43:1–7; Psalm 29; Acts 8:14–17; and Luke 3:15–22.
Seekers | Garth Overlook Room
The Christian Roots of Lingering Anti-Semitism
Pastor Randy will share about the problematic Christian interpretations of scripture that have sadly fostered positions of anti-Semitism through the ages, and how we can live into healthier, more just interpretations going forward by faith.
Soul Food | Good Samaritan Room (G12)
We will continue discussing selections from Meditations of the Heart, by Howard Thurman, led by the Rev. Joe Hajdu, Linda Harrington, and Judy Roberts.
