Here’s what’s happening in worship this week.
Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, at 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is It’s In There. Seminary intern Paul Seif will preach from Luke 24: 41–51.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Hinson-Hasty will preach. Her sermon will be entitled “Rulebreakers, Resistance, and Zacchaen Economics” based on Luke 19:1–10.
Dr. Hinson-Hasty is active in the PC(USA) denomination and is the chair of theology at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. She also is the author of many books and articles, including texts on Dorothy Day, Christian Social Justice, and the Problem of Wealth.
Taizé | Wednesday, at 7 pm
An hour-long service including sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. The Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan will lead worship. This week’s after-Taizé class will feature live music on the Labyrinth!
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Combined Class | Chapel
This week, the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Hinson-Hasty will lead a combined class.
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
May’s scripture readings begin with Jesus saying, “I have called you friends” (John 15:15) and they culminate with Pentecost in a rush of sound and varied speech. While there may be many ways of describing the Spirit, starting with abiding friendship is a fine way. Through friendship, love can move within and across boundaries, outside and within margins. Through friendship in Christ, the dimensions of love become unlimited, unfathomable. Join some friends for one of our classes:
This week, our readings are Acts 1:15–17, 21–26; Psalm 1:1–6; 1 John 5:9–13; and John 17:6–19.
