Here’s what’s happening in worship this week.
Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, at 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Joy. Mark Blank will preach.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Randy will preach from Galatians 1:1–12 , and his sermon will be titled “Wrong Choices.” We also will hear special vocal music by composer Jason Robert Brown.
Taizé Stations of the Cross | Wednesday, at 7 pm
An hour-long service including sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. The Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan will lead this service of sung Taizé prayer. Stay afterward for Contemplative Prayer.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | Second Floor Parlor
The Beatitudes
Carolyn Russ will lead us as we conclude our series on the Beatitudes. What does it mean to be blessed? What is righteousness?
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“The Lord is king! Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundations of his throne”—Psalm 97:1–2. How is God so obscured yet so transparent? And how does the risen Lord assure the church of the continual presence and rule of this just God in a violent world? How do we gauge any leadership? Join us in May as we read Scripture and ponder such questions.
This week, Mark Blank will lead us. Our readings are 1 Kings 18:20–21, 22–29, 30–39; Psalm 96; Galatians 1:1–12; and Luke 7:1–10.
Seekers | Room 234
Christianity in North Korea
We will hear two online talks from escapees from North Korea, about their lives there and their hopes for the future. We also will discuss Christianity in North Korea—to what extent they can practice their faith without being sent to jail.
Soul Food | Third Floor Music Room
This week, Joe Hajdu, Barb Fotta, Michele Vivienne Selia will lead a discussion of a daily meditation by Fr. Richard Rohr. Printed copies will be provided.
