Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is New Beginnings. Derail Holcomb will preach from Mark 4:35–41. We also will celebrate Communion.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Patrice will preach from Jeremiah 33:14–16, and her sermon will be titled “In Days to Come.” We also will celebrate Communion.
If you’re out of town and/or unable to join us for worship, follow us on Facebook to receive a notification when we go live so that you can watch this week’s sermon.
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, 7 pm
Led by the Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan, our hour-long Taizé service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | Harambe Room
What Does America Require?
ELPC member Rev. Tony Richardson-Eckes will be teaching us about the legal process of immigration and visa applications. As a Christian, how does one understand the process towards citizenship?
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.”—Philippians 4:5
Here is a countercultural message to fully embody throughout these days! Just like the first century—when fear is evoked, brutality is advocated, vulgarity and ridicule are the norm—God comes gently, gathering outcasts, born in humility. Peace to all. Join us as we read of God’s arrival in flesh.
Join us for this week’s readings: Jeremiah 33:14–16; Psalm 25:1–10; 1 Thessalonians 3:9–13; and Luke 21:25–36.
Seekers | Garth Overlook Room
Mary and Jesus: An Islamic Perspective
Aliya Khan is back with us to talk about how the Quran portrays Mary, Jesus, and the story of Jesus’ miraculous birth. Mary is the only woman named in the Quran and has a chapter named for her—there is more in the Quran about Mary than in our Bible. And we will hear how the miracles of Jesus and his role as Messiah are portrayed from an Islamic lens. We also will hear some verses from Chapter 19: Maryam—the magic of this story captured in the beauty of the language.
Soul Food | Good Samaritan Room (G12)
We will continue discussing selections from Meditations of the Heart, by Howard Thurman, with a focus on African-American contemplative spirituality. We will be led by the Rev. Joe Hajdu, Michele Bossers, and Katlyn Dougherty.
