Worship Services
Journey Worship | Sunday, at 8:45 am
An interactive, energetic service for those seeking a fresh encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our theme this month is Tolerance. Pastor Patrice will preach from Acts 16:16–34.
Sanctuary Worship | Sunday, at 11 am
Our largest service, with music from the Chancel Choir and an organ prelude prior to the service. Pastor Randy will preach from Matthew 21:23–32, and his sermon will be titled “No More Mixed Messages.”
Taizé Prayer Service | Wednesday, at 7 pm
Led by the Rev. Mary Lynn Callahan, our hour-long Taizé service includes sung prayers; simple, beautiful music; a time of silence; spoken and silent prayers; and an opportunity for individual prayer and anointing. Stay afterward for Contemplative Prayer. If you’re unable to participate in person, join our live stream on your computer or mobile device.
Christian Education Classes
We offer Christian Education classes for persons of all ages, from infancy through adulthood, on Sundays from 9:45–10:45 am. Click the links for adult class descriptions and children and youth offerings.
Contemporaries | Harambe Room
The Lord’s Prayer may be described as a “very bright point of light” for those in total darkness. While it has similarities to Jewish daily prayer, it also has significant differences. Jesus prayed this prayer in Aramaic, rather than Hebrew, and it is succinct and direct; the paradigm is “do not heap empty phrases as the Gentiles.” Our 4-week study of the Lord’s Prayer will be based on the late Ken Bailey’s scholarship.
Carolyn Russ will lead our lesson, “Our Sins and Evil,” as we conclude our series on the Lord’s Prayer by examining Matthew 6:12–13 and tackling the petitions dealing with forgiveness and trials/evil.
Journey With Scripture | Second Floor Library
“Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob”—Psalm 99:4. Join us as we seek to understand God’s love of justice and equity: through the journey of the Israelites in the wilderness, psalms of praise and confession, parables of Jesus, and the apostle Paul’s encouragement to new followers in Christ.
This week, our readings are: Exodus 20:1–4; Psalm 19; Philippians 3:4b–14; and Matthew 21:33–46.
Seekers | Chapel
Caring for PTSD and Other Mental Health Issues Among Refugees and Immigrants
Sarah Mauskapf and Carrie Richardson, of the Catholic Charities Refugee Program, will tell us about their programs that address the mental health issues that refugees and immigrants are facing. If you watch TV showing the war-torn homes that they are escaping from, it is no wonder that they would have mental health issues such as PTSD.
Soul Food | Third Floor Music Room
Join us for a beginning discussion of Richard Rohr’s Everything Belongs, chapter two, led by the Rev. Joe Hajdu, Yamuna Morgenstern, and Michele Bossers.
Young Adults | Second Floor Parlor
Together with our senior high youth, we will focus on the topic of race as we study the Word and build relationships with our future young adults.
